It's the album that got me into King Crimson and remains my favorite.

It's too bad because, other than that it is a fantastic album.

I guess Islands isn't on my desert island album list.

I do. It's during the woodwind solo rite? I think it's unacceptable to release a remaster without fixing that.

I just picked up "Islands" 40th edition, and am sad to report that the hi-frequency whine 2/3 of the way through the title track is still there. This is essentially the only reason I bought it, I figured they would have to remove that to have any sort of polished product. Nevertheless quite disappointing for me.

I assume the master tapes were damaged or something, and hope this wasn't left in by accident. Oh well, still a great buy other than that (better sound than the previous release I owned).

Does anyone else go nuts when they hear that sound!?

^ Well, cutting the song from 12 min to 9 min is just about the same. It's still too much time of the same soundscapes. I wouldn't really mind too much, since those soundscapes is about the only thing I'm not thrilled about on this album (though they don't bother me too much either). If Fripp had wanted to please the average fans, then he would have needed to cut the song to under 4 mins, leaving only the actual "song".

OK, Thanks for that info, Harmonium.ro  :)

Got ITCOTKC 40th Ann. yesterday.

The sound quality is much better than the EG-records CD version I had before.

Nice work, WIlson and Fripp :)

I have so far only heard the stereo CD mix , through good headphones.

Only one complaint so far: 'Moonchild', that is in the orginal running order track 4, is an edited 9-minute version compared to the 12-minute orginal. The full version is listed in the bonus tracks as track 6. I wouldn't mind if these two were switched around.

Is this a new thing on this or is it seen on other remastered versions?

I will maybe post a comment regarding the 5.1 mix later.

Hi,

It's hard not to appreciate these 4 albums being redone. It's however a lot sadder for me that Robert's own solo albums are not getting the remaster job ... sad ... so many other beautiful things that stood out and helped create scenes like "new age" will be forever dismissed and dis-regarded as not important.

Instead an album that is pretty much a band in search of a sound (the first) eventually became the staple of our need for something that was completely anti-commercial and was totally different than some of the lollipop stuff we heard on the radio. And KC helped make a mark in that area. But sadly, we're not able to appreciate Robert for his own solo work, that in many ways is even more special and important and with Brian Eno, helped cement what eventually became known as "new age" to a degree.
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

I will probably get the Islands one, as it's the only KC album before the 80's that I don't have, and I might as well get a nice version of it.

I see that the DVD has bonus tracks not on the CD. Why would they do this? Why make it so damn inaccessible?

Just picked up Lizards SW 5.1 master today! Thumbs Up Haven't listened to it yet, but I greatly look forward to it. I'm a big PT and Steve Wilson nut, and I buy pretty much anything he's involved with, but I love KC as well, and I've really been getting into them lately. This will be my first ever listen to Lizards. I look forward to it!
Hello, mirror. So glad to see you, my friend. It's been a while...

I'm guessing Steve did a fine job with earlier KC albums because he, like me, got to know them very well.  At this point Fripp probably picked up a thing or two from Steve on 5.1 remasters and at this point Steve doesn't know latter KC nearly as well as Fripp does anyway.
