Brave to be re-released on vinyl in May.....have already pre-ordered my copy. Cut from the original vinyl production masters, based on all other Marillion vinyl I have I can only expect the usual brilliant, clean, beautiful sound from my turntable.
The re-issue is suppose to also have the double groove side 4 with the 2 endings.

I can't believe nobody has posted about the Montreal weekend yet. Still didn't surpass 2009, but Brave in it's entirety was truly magic. A dream was realized a week and a half ago. Whereas Rothery was the star of the show for Radiation Friday, Hogarth stole the show on Saturday. I said that I was hoping that they had a nice clean performance of Brave, and with the exception of just a couple of minor hiccups, they pulled it off brilliantly. I've seen Marillion 11 times, and have never seen h on fire like he was on Saturday night. Just blistering and "Hard As Love" was an absolute stunner.

I think h gave so much during Brave that he didn't have a lot left over for the second set. Granted, it wasn't my favorite set list (beginning with "Rich", which is a lower tier song), but they did do a killer version of "Warm Wet Circles/That Time Of The Night".

Had a great time hanging out with Steve from this group. Just a phenomenal weekend. Still got the post-Marillion Weekend Blues, though.

Latest e-bulletin from the band:

15 March 2013 Weekend 2013

I'd like to thank everyone involved for making the Marillion weekend in the Netherlands so memorable. We are so incredibly lucky to have the talented and dedicated crew, management and fan club teams responsible for everything from selling the merchandising to running the Marillion museum and without a doubt, the best audience on the planet.
It was an insane amount of work for the band to try and play three full albums and all the other songs over the three days but I think we did pretty well, a few gremlins here and there but nothing too serious. The response from the fans made it all worthwhile.

It was great to share the stage with my daughter Jennifer during Brave, a song that features her crying as a very young baby (also the music in the first section of Made Again was written for her when she was born).

Thanks to everyone for the compliments on my photo exhibition in the Marillion museum. For anyone who missed them the photos in the exhibition can now be seen at www.postcardsfromtheroad.co

Here's looking forward to doing it all again in Montreal!

Steve R

Well I think that went quite well! Thank you all for being there with us once again. It was such a good vibe this year and never ceases to amaze me staring out over the crowd. We have always wanted to perform Brave with the sort of production that we feel it deserves but up until now have never been in a position to do so. So, thank you also for giving us that opportunity. I think you will agree, it was very special.
The only thing against us this year was the weather. But over the years we have been particularly lucky in that respect. This did however give everyone a chance to see all the other bits and pieces that our huge team of staff and helpers arrange and put together to make the weekend that little bit more special. From the museum or the shop to the quiz and Marillion Karaoke, I think more people attended or got a peek at this side of the weekend's schedule than ever before and we the band would personally like to thank every one who worked or gave their time to helping this and the whole convention happen.
I hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

We hope you all got back safely ..if not necessarily at the time you planned!! Don't worry you weren't alone. No-one escaped that bad weather for the homeward journey.

Let's do it all again sometime!
Bye
Pete

I was really disappointed that STCBM has not been issued on vinyl. I am also hopeful that Brave gets re-issued on vinyl, the double groove ending would be nice to have also.
Ditto !!!  Being a vinyl junkie myself, I hope many more H Marillion albums get vinyl releases.  I too, have bought the vinyls of Marillion.com and This Strange Engine.  My only qualm is that on .com, they botched the track-listing - on the album sleeve : it says for side 3 - 'Tumble Down The Years' and 'House' and side 4 is 'Interior Lulu'.  The vinyl itself plays like this : side 3 - 'Interior Lulu' and 'Tumble Down The Years' and side 4 is 'House'.  How can this shuffle happen ??

22 February 2013 9:30 to Fillmore

9.30 to Fillmore - Photographic Memories North American Tour 2012.

Last June we toured the USA and Canada for the first time since 2004. Eight years of absence created an electrifying anticipation that has rarely preceded any tour we have done. Luckily we were shadowed every beer stained step of the way by the "Lord of the Lens" Andy Wright. He's a seriously nice guy that nobody would object to being around at any time, so he managed to capture the sights, the sounds, the smells.. OK, just the sights then, of the entire tour. Not just on stage, backstage or in hotels but everywhere from the White House to a social security office in Nowheresville.

From the 9:30 club in Washington to the Fillmore in San Francisco Andy shot over 40,000 images. The best of these now make up this beautiful book that anyone who saw us on the tour will want to own for the memories and anyone who didn't see us will want to own to see what they missed. When it comes to photography, you've either got it or you haven't. And Andy has REALLY got it! Together we have produced a Limited Edition 180 page 12 x 12 hardback 'coffee table' art book which also includes diary pieces in each city from all 5 members of the band. We are very proud of this release. Some sneak previews can be found herewww.youtube.com/watch?v=MLOQLBgL6Ss

This will be launched at the Marillion Weekend in Holland. It will also be on sale at our weekends in Montreal and the UK and will then be on sale on our website.

Mark, Ian, H, Pete and Steve

One trick in enjoying Radiation, I think, is to not expect a typical prog rock sound.  One thing I especially enjoyed was Hogarth's pretty aggressive/expressive vocals.  Excellent performance, and to be honest I wish he sounded like this more often!

It was recorded right in the middle of the "we are not really prog" phase. Nonsense, of course, but there was a deliberate attempt on this, Marillion.com, and Anoraknophobia to move away from traditional prog. The band were all the stronger for it, IMHO.

Latest e bulletin from the and:

14 February 2013 Radiation 2013..

RADIATION 2013.

At this year's Marillion Weekends, as well as performing Brave in its entirety, we had also decided to play the whole of the Radiation album. Although very proud of this album as a collection of songs we have often debated whether it might not benefit from an updated mixdown.. so, following his sterling and much-lauded work on Sounds That Can't Be Made we asked our (increasingly resident) sonic wizard, Mike Hunter to apply his ears, hardware, software and talent to it. This turned out to be anything but staightforward as the original source recordings had to be oven-baked and transferred from their original somewhat dodgy digital format before the re mix could begin.

The remix is now complete and sounds wonderful. We will release this in conjunction with Madfish who have done such a wonderful job on repackaging this as a 2CD digibook. The digibook contains new artwork and the original album as well as the new remix.
We have played the album to a few people and their responses have ranged from 'immense', 'awesome' to " It's fantastic ... it's a completely different album. It's got space, clarity, power and you can pick up all the nuances".

So we can't wait for you all to hear it.
It's available to pre-order now and soundclips are also available to listen to at: http://www.marillion.com/shop/albums/radiation.htm

The album was recorded at The Forge studio in my old home town of Oswestry, and I was fortunate enough to have been given a sneak preview of the album by Phil Beaumont.

I think Radiation is a terrific album, but probably will not get the remaster.

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it last night. It strikes me as the type of album that is enjoyed best when you haven't listened to it in a while.

What does come across is the sheer maturity of the band's music. Until STCBM, I thought it was Mark Kelly's finest moment with the band, but that surpassed it for me.

I have it on now watching the football, for the first time in quite a while. I am enjoying it so much. There are some damn fine moments on this album. I wonder to myself just why such great music does not seem to garner the respect it thoroughly deserves. Certainly, Real Tears For Sale is one of the finest tracks the band ever recorded.

What are people's thoughts on this now that we have a successor album? To me, it is growing in retrospect. What about you?

I love HITR, a great album.  There are indeed many great moments on this album.  The opening Dreamy Street/This Train Is My Life couplet is gorgeous.  Add the wonderful Man From Planet Marzipan, Real Tears For Sale and the title track and you get the idea of the quality that flows through this superb double album.  Any low spots are very few and far between.

This is one of my favourite Marillion albums (think I'm in the minority!) and good as the new album is I still prefer HITR to STCBM.

This band has always produced high quality music for sure. HITR is no exception, a very strong release it is. This late in the game the ratings are quite futile, honestly.

Actually,Scott, there was some pretty tough competition last year. In the collabs top albums thread, I named STCBM as my third position, behind the sublime Ioearth and Sylvan productions. Damned close to those two, but just short of the magical masterpiece status.

I do think there is an important point to be made there, though. When an album that is top of the pops in a mag such as this does not make my number one (and I am utterly bonkers about them), and outside the top ten of someone as knowing as yourself, then it is, to me, a further sign that we are rather blessed with a plethora of great modern music.

This genre is going from strength to strength, of that there is no doubtClap
It really is.  With the assistance of Spotify and an overactive credit card I've managed to listen to over 100 albums in our wonderful genre this year, which really only scratches the surface, and there really weren't any bad ones among them in my opinion.  I tend to be fairly easy to please.  It really comes down to there just being some that I enjoyed more than others.
