Dany Heatley killed a teammate by being a complete idiot, with hardly any help from alcohol, and yet he was right back in lineup as soon as his own injuries were healed.  In fact, he got right back to making NHL all star teams without anyone blinking an eye.  I'm truely sickened everytime I see him take the ice but it seems like I'm in the minority somehow.

What?!? I hadn't heard about this. Got a link?

(Huge hockey fan here too.)

I cut and pasted this from Wiki:

On September 29, 2003, Heatley was seriously injured after he lost control of the Ferrari 360 Modena he was driving. The car struck a wall, splitting the car in half and ejecting him and his passenger, teammate Dan Snyder. Heatley suffered a broken jaw, a minor concussion, a bruised lung, bruised kidney, and tore three ligaments in his right knee; Snyder was critically injured with a skull fracture and died six days later on October 5 of sepsis. Heatley was charged with vehicular homicide; he pleaded guilty to second-degree vehicular homicide, driving too fast for conditions, failure to maintain a lane, and speeding. He admitted to drinking some prior to the incident, but his blood-alcohol content was below the legal limit. He was sentenced to three years probation, and the judge, Rowland W. Barnes, required the court to approve Heatley's vehicle, which could not have more than six cylinders and would not surpass 70mph (112 km/h).[5] Heatley avoided having to go to trial as part of a plea deal that dropped the first-degree charge of vehicular homicide.[6]

And currently Heatley is demanding a trade out of Ottawa when he's lucky to be playing at all. Angry

I would have a bigger problem if he was drunk. Yes, he was just being a thrill seeking idiot otherwise..

$1.6m for the first year, $5m option for the second.

I am not happy about this.

Why not? You guys have a very talented backup for McNabb.

I am just wondering how the notorious Philly fans will react to this news.

So, my brother just told me Vick was picked up by the Eagles
..He's not so happy about that LOL

That is a surprise. I REALLY thought he was going to a worse team.
I actually am hoping for McNabb to stay healthy for once...and if Vick DOES play I hope someone steps on his leg.
Better if it was done by someone on the Giants.

This will be all I hear about for the whole season - and yet another quarterback controversy will probably rear its ugly head at some point.

The Eagles aren't really my team anyways, but I'm obviously exposed to all the local media.

Remember when my boys the Ravens tore his leg up in a preseason game and he missed 11 games of the regular season?

It can happen.

I really would not be upset if some one did. Don't want the guy messed up, but I would not be too heart broken if he had to miss another year....
And I'm not saying I want someone on the Giants to do it...but again, I wouldn't mind

Seriously, someone out there has to be a dog lover, (or just have a strong conscious) and will do it...

Although, I guess the worst part is...this IS entertainment.
IF Vick does play at all, and manages to do good, well...I'm sure SOME Eagles fan will let it go.

After all, I will admit...I'm pretty hard on celebrities getting special treatment, yet I was ecstatic when I heard Antonio Pierce would not get in any trouble for the Plaxico incident.....EmbarrassedDisapprove

I guess Vick DID serve his time...he's lost everything he had. His career is more or less down the tubes unless he REALLY turns out great.
It's sickening what he did, but I guess there is a precedent for players in trouble getting back in the league. And Vick has served more time than most...

That's why I am surprised. Any owner with a brain (though we wonder sometimes) could only imagine the PR onslaught. Especially in a big city...
Why the Eagles???

I really thought for sure the Cowboys or Pats would take him

Yeah, will be interesting how the fans will react in general, they can surprise you sometimes .. they very well may embrace him.  More importantly I hope McNabb becomes available and Tampa signs him.Tongue

The Eagles stated they never considered Vick until Kolb sustained an injury, then they became interested in signing him to back McNabb up.

Does make sense...especially with McNabb you need a capable back up for him.
Vick has not been too capable in the past, and he may be athletic still...but I doubt he improved on his passing in Jail.
But hey, run the spread option?

Let him play, he's made and lost more $ than most of us will ever see in a lifetime, even if we hit the lottery.  The rest of the NFC East has to be happy, given that the distraction alone pretty much takes PHI out of the equation this year.
Can you tell me where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.

Is the 2nd year a team option or a player option?

$1.6m for a year is more money that many of us we'll ever see in a lifetime.

While I agree with that "don't take away his livelyhood" or however you call it what a person needs in order to survive, $1.6m is just slightly off the mark in my opinion....

I hope some good player from another team does what has to be done.... So that Vick can get a better job...
