I have noticed that the ratings and reviews of the Beardfish cd's has improved from their debut ( a average of 3.35) to the new one.(with a average of 4.67). It almost reflect my impressions when i hear all their cds. They sound better and better with time. The sounds of the keyboards, specially, is remarkable on the latest one and take me back to the 70's.  The're also many twists in a song that surprised me each time. I can't avoid thinking of Zappa and Gentle Giant listening to this band.  So maybe it's not a band that has created a new sound, but if they have made that kind of music in the 70's, would you have considered them a great band or can we still say the same statement right now in 2009?Thumbs Up

Havent got the new one. But while i was very happy with the last when i first hear it, i kinda lost interest a bit too fast.
I
m not sure why, but maby the long epic, was just not solid enough to be that long.

Still i think some very nice tracks in between.

I think they're the most promising prog band to come along in years, and they keep getting better and better with each subsequent release.

I enjoyed the first album, but not enough to go out and immediately purchase the second one, maybe one of these days I'll get around to it.  They bear a lot of similarities with a great band called Black Bonzo, or at least to my ears!

To me Beardfish is all Rikard Sjöblom .. personally I'd like to see him venture out and gather top musicians to help him develop or add to his ideas.  I'll follow his career, don't think I'd do the same for anyone else in the band.

They don't do anything metal-like so I doubt it.

Andy Tillison seemed to think the rest of the band were ok!

Ah, then you haven't heard any of the new material. The title track (on their MySpace now) has a bunch of classic hard rock/heavy metal-style riffs and even a growling section (though I think that was a poor call on the band's part).

Yes, as distant as I've been growing from traditional prog rock-type bands over the years, I did enjoy Sleeping in Traffic. I'm going to give the new album a listen but I'm not sure if I'm going to like it as much as I would have if it dropped a few years ago. We'll see; the songs on their MySpace are pretty good, if a bit too long.

The new one is half filled with amazing songs, half filled with fluff. I would rate it worse than the sleeping in traffic part 2, which is a shame. The songs that are good on the album are BETTER than anything i've heard from them before, but the weaker songs really pull it down.

I've played the new one 4 times now and think the last 3 albums are all better. It's lacking the strong melodies of Sleeping In Traffic (1 & 2). I'm hoping it's a grower but at the moment I'm thinking pretty good but not staggering.

I really like them. Next big band? I mean, what exactly do you mean? Do I think they are going to become as big as Tool, Muse, Radiohead, The Mars Volta, and the like? Absolutely not.

If you're not speaking in terms of popularity, I do think they will continue to gain more and more respect over time.

Do people agree with me when I say that "Awaken the Sleeping" and "Coupe De Grace" are the strongest pieces they have ever written?

What do you consider fluff on this album? To my ears, there isn't a single track that doesn't have at a handful of charming, memorable qualities to it. But maybe I'm a bit biased, as I'm the artist for the Destined Solitaire Pacakging!

I'm a bit surprised that the reception of Destined Solitaire seems to be a bit lukewarm right now. Hoping this trend will change. It's their most adventurous effort to date while maintaining the 'friendly familiarity' of everything they've done before. This fact seems to be lost on progarchives, where I thought it would be understood the most. Does anyone agree this is their BEST album and a clear summation AND progression of everything that came before?

Yes you got a point!, "Next Big Band" was only there to get attention! I mean big in terms of "great progressive bands".

I have noticed a commun observation on the quality of Beardfish album in general. There's some weaker songs on those albums. And that's what i feel also with the new album . But i think the new one has the strongest songs they have made. (IMO)

I don't really feel that they're a band that will ever get as popular as the bands Micah named. They're just not that kind of band and they're not quite energetic enough for the modern crowd, IMO.

In a somewhat related subject, I burned Sleeping in Traffic pt. 2 for a buddy who's 15 and who's going to prognation with me and he thought it was excellent. It's a shame they're not going on the tour.
