Journey to the Center of the Eye is on my list of top ten progressive rock albums from the classic era. Utterly Magnificent, original and creative. I like Recycled too but in a guilty sort of way. It does not seem very experimental to me. It's composed of numerous highly accessible hooks linked together by a variety of transitions in a progressive "style". I like it, but it's like candy, neo-prog before there was neo-prog. Am I being too critical? Maybe. I'm going to go listen to Recycled again now. Don't tell anyone.

Hmmm ... there were some Beatle lyrics in the "Sounds Like This" album ...

And yeah ... that's one list of covers that I will ahve to get ... that's an amazing list of players all over.

Edgar Froese impersonating Rick Wright ... that's worth the price of admission and if anyone could do that, I bet he could!

I just thought that I would share this email that I received this morning:

Hello Scott

it's been a while since I contacted you but it has been for good reason.

Busy is not the word!
We have been at it non-stop to enable a release of a very special unique product adding broad diversity to the Nektar catalogue. It has been in the pipeline for a while now but I didn't want to say anything until I had confirmation from the numerous participants.

Nektar is proud to begin working with some of the biggest names in the music industry!

You see, in association with Cleopatra Records (great guys by the way!!), we are about to release a grand Covers Album - yes you read it correctly - an album of 15 classic rock tracks you will know well including tracks such as "Blinded by the Light" & "Riders on the Storm ".

But the best part is that NEKTAR is hosting a GUEST LIST to boast about.

To mention just a few; Jerry Goodman, Rick Wakeman, Steve Howe and plenty more.

You will need to go to www.nektarsmusic.com to see the entire contents.

I know you are going to love this album, so check it out.

Due to all this work, I have had to reschedule the release of Juggernaut - but patience please!
It IS on it's way I assure you.

Peace & Love to you & yours

RA
On behalf of NEKTAR

Both of them did thank each other in a couple of albums ... your guess as to which ones they are ... they knew each other very well.

Agreed.

I pretty much cried, when I heard "It's All Over, Now!" because I had met the band and knew they got totally crashed out after that massive tour with Golden Earring, that killed them ... and the next album were out-takes that they had already been doing in concert before (Show Me The Way, That''s Life, for example) ... and not new material.

I loved this band and got a chance to meet them in Los Angeles, and they were great. And magnificent in concert.

One sad thing, that does not give them enough credit, and Roye has talked about it. Because we think that this is "progressive music" and not just "music", none of us really appreciates an extremelly under-rated album called "Sounds Like This", and in the end, the tribute to Jimi Hendrix was wasted,. so was Odyssey, and some really fine things, like the endless ending that was borrowed by Alice Bowie later. And it was fun, and funny at the same time.

I always thought that Recycled, was one of the best rock albums ever done, regardless or definition. But I also think that a lot of it, happened because of Larry Fast, not just Nektar, but you had to have the kind of ability and follow through to be able to do something like that and make loud bands sound like ... just Chuck Berry!

I am finishing my tour through Nektar's albums with my first listen to Book Of Days.  So far it is pretty good, but I am only a couple of songs in so far.

That must have been awesome. I've only been able to experience them live through the "Pure" dvd, which I quite enjoy. They are one of the few bands I'm sorry I've never gotten to see.

^ I really liked the last one, Book Of Days.  Best of the new ones so far.  I'd recommend going to that one, Tab, or Recycled next.

Amazing band with very bad luck.

Who knows.

I am almost sure that the idealism around the light show is what killed them. The massive co-ordination and everything else made their shows a bit more difficult than the average band, and I think that they were afraid that their work would not be as complete as it would otherwise be.

In the end, even a Nektar unplugged would be excellent, and the light show was not exactly necessary for me. I could live with the lyrics and the music just fine, but I am not sure that they wanted to come off just like any other rock band out there ... and that probably hurt in the long run.

I was always surprised that Mick did not take this into film and put together massive videos and films about the music and full of visuals ... most of us fans would have bought it ... and instead ... it died.

I liked the Nearfast show ... but it felt sad for me, really sad, and then Mo decided to call it a night! And while I can say that Roy is special, I really thought that Mo's bass was spectacular and often stood out way so much ...
My brother saw them twice back then.  The first time they put out ads touting their light show and drew a big crowd.  On their next visit they didn't and almost no one showed.

I am relatively new to Nektar.  I downloaded all of their albums a few years ago from eMusic back when I had an account there.  I listened to them a couple of times and enjoyed them, but can't say that I became all that familiar with them.  I am currently listening to Journey to the Centre of the Eye and I am enjoying it immensely.  I will be trying to give all of their albums another listen over the next couple of weeks or so.

You made me have to put that one on.  LOL
Man, that album took forever to become available.  The remastered Roundhouse is really good.  They didn't put all the same material on it but it's expanded.
