Hermann Szobel was jazz fusion pianist who released only one album in 1976 entitled "Szobel" at the age of 18. After the release of his album he vanished from the music world. His music was ahead of its time and his piano playing was unbelievably virtuosic. His compositions are complex and comparable to the work of Frank Zappa.

I was surprised that he's only mentioned very briefly in the Rascal Reporters biography as an influence and nowhere else on the site (couldn't find him anywhere).

Just wanted to share this incredible music with the Prog Archives community.

Here is a link to a myspace page with four of Hermann Szobel's songs:

I too have an old vinyl copy of this album and yes, it's a damn good listen but given it was on a major label (I think ?) they clearly would have had great difficulty marketing such unique and idiosyncratic music. This guy was Hungarian (I think ?)

Sorry this is so vague but I taped the album to cassette and the original is in the Lemming burrow attic somewhere....

I never knew His album was part of a major label. Which one? I've been trying to download the album because I doubt I'll find it  in any record stores, but no luck with the download. It hasn't moved from 0%. Bummer...

Hmm... If this album was released on a major label it must have faded into obscurity. I wonder why. Was it not a successful album? I really wish I could find it or at least download it.
