I've been an Edge of Sanity fan lately, in addition to loving his other projects. Dan truly is one of the most talented and diverse musicians around. I couldn't find an appreciation thread still around for him, so I figured I'd start this one.
So what is your favorite Dan Swano associated band or solo project? -Jeff |

Even I'm an educated metalhead, I must confess having only listened to Edge of Sanity. This man must have produced the same amount of records as John Zorn.

Yeah, he has an unreal amount of albums. I own most of them, but you have to be quite the fanboy to have all of them. If you like Edge of Sanity, I recommend Nightingale. They have some great albums.

...Well Edge of Sanity was a favorite of mine for many years. I got into Edge of Sanity through their demo tapes and I remember purchasing Their debut album on LP. Later on I learnt of his Nightingale project which I am also really fond of. Pan.Thy.Monium is pretty new to me but definitely a great project too. I´m actually a bit surprised I didn´t get any of those albums before recently ( within the last year or so). Maceration is another of his projects I listened to back in the nineties. It´s a Dan Swanö project with members from the danish death/ thrash act Invocator and it was via their involvement in the projects that I heard about Maceration. Dan operates under his pseudonym on the debut Maceration album.

I wouldn´t actully recommend their music. Pretty standard nineties death metal. I enjoyed it back then but never listen to the album I have anymore. You can read about them here: http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=3472

Bloodbath are awesome.Super star line-up playing old school death metal.
Besides Edge of Sanity I like Nightingale and his one-off experimental project Karaboudjan.

I would very much like to hear Karaboudjan. haven´t heard about this act before. I agree about Bloodbath. Absolutely great old school Swedish death metal. I listen to their albums frequently. Especially Nightmares Made Flesh.

Bloodbath is some of the best death metal I've heard. Dan Swano and Mikael Akerfeldt really are awesome together.

Karaboudjan is a pretty weird project.Swano only made the one 3 song EP and it's very experimental. The only other thing he has done that I can compare it to is Pan.Thy.Monium. Edited by TheProgtologist - August 31 2009 at 07:35 |

Yes you do. His solo "Moontower" album is incredible, and so is Edge of Sanity's "Crimson". That's only if you're into growled vocals, though. Nightingale has some great heavy prog/prog metal in their discography if you're not into more of a death metal sound. He really is one of my favorite prog musicians. |

I only need to listen to EOS to know he's a metal genius. I love the band with a passion. They are so progressive, yet so METAL at the same time, the music is just perfect. I still can't figure out which one I prefer out of Purgatory Afterglow, Crimson and Crimson II as they are all magnificent.
