Hi all

What are the best groups influenced by Atomic Rooster?

Hard prog with dominant keyboards and "crunchy" guitar riffs? Wink

I'm thinking of

2066 And Then (Germany)
Black Widow (UK; well influenced is a big word, since they were contemporary to AR)
Wicked Minds (excellent contemporary italian band)

Any other suggestion?

There is another modern Italian band, Odessa (from Marche), who have been strongly influenced by early Seventies hard prog (mainly Deep Purple, but I suppose we can count Atomic Rooster among their influences too).

LUCIFER'S FRIEND--WHERE THE GROUPIES KILLED THE BLUES. This effort from L.C. has the Atomic Rooster approach but also King Crimson. There is more piano here and it's very much in the vain of how Vincent Crane plays piano on BREATHLESS from MADE IN ENGLAND. LUCIFER'S FRIEND (self titled) has more of the Hammond organ sound.

Yeah!!! Lucifer's Friend!!! What a band.

Not quite as good as Deep Purple at the time, but to my ears ahead of Zep, Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep, and....Atomic Rooster.   Thumbs Up

If ya like Rooster, you would do well to cast an ear to Areknames (clearly inspired by Vinnie Crane & Co but very original songwriting and a nice blend of Crazy World Art Brown, jazzy Sabs some Tron  and psychedelia etc)

Rather incongruously, given the influences cited, they're Italian.

Standarte - modern Italian band (singing in English though), with big influence of early British prog rock
music is very much keyboard-based, very recommended for those who love roaring Hammond organ and crazy spinning Leslies :-). some nice harpsichord too

Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Black Widow, Quatermass, Pescado Rabioso, Humble Pie (not that heavy, but lots of organ), ...
