In spite of the fact that I prefer Nursery Cryme, I would say that all the polls indicate that SEBTP is the ultimate Genesis 70s prog album, so from that, I would say Dancing With The Moonlit Knight.

I still don't know all the Genesis albums, but from the prog era I'd say Firth of Fifth, or Supper's ready (I still don't know Musical box, I guess I'll have to do something about that). From the pop era, I guess it would be Turn it on again, Mama, or perhaps Land of Confusion.

As far as my very personal taste, I would go with Firth of Fifth.

i don't think they necessarily have a signature song, but they definitely have a signature era. In my opinion the stuff they did with Peter Gabriel in the seventies is Genesis and Trick of the tail with Phil Collins on vocals, after that its a bunch of rubbish.

Firth of the fifth or Suppers Ready.  But if you ask me which song evokes Genesis at their best for me, I would name Musical Box, Salmacis or Dancing with the moonlit knight.  Terrific lead interplay and every bit as emotionally resonant as those other two songs.

No love for Can Utility and the Coastliners? It's a condensed epic with story-telling lyrics, instrumental section including mellotron, recurring themes, multiple sections...

Gotta say Supper's Ready if you're looking from the Progressive perspective.

Well, not one track in particular. When I were a lad in the early 1970s it was The Knife followed by Watcher of the Skies and Get 'em Out by Friday and Suppers Ready.

These were the most 'requested' songs that the audience would politely ask for.

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.

Cinema Show, Firth of Fifth, and Supper's Ready are their biggest classics.....

Tricky question due to the fact that Genesis has had three distinct incarnations.
Each one probably has their 'signature song' in their own time period. For my part, I mostly think of Genesis as Gabriel era stuff with "Trick Of The Tail" being that overlap album where Hackett was still able to keep thing on track. But out of all those recordings I would think that "The Knife" or maybe even "Watcher of the Skies" might be considered a 'signature'. This based on the popularity of them and the audience reaction from live performances. If by 'signature song' you mean the son that best exemplifies the Genesis sound, then I might say "Supper's Ready" or "The Lamb".
Thank you for supporting independently produced music
