Stick with a digital solution. There are lots of products out there such as fruity loops

I found an interesting solution on how to convert a Portastudio 414 into a tape loop recorder using infinite tapes (like the one that have in the old times the telephone answers machines the one with the neverending music you know what I mean?)

Perhaps is worh to look at www.Loopers-delight.com adn find the writing that describe this issue.

Search on tips and tricks, as far as I remember...

to James Lee - I'm probably going to do a musique concrete type composition or something experimental/industrial  in the vein of Throbbing Gristle

to sigod - A software emulator is perfectly fine

thanks for the help guys!

There are software emulators that do a very good job or re-creating the sound of tape loop and their degredation but are you after a hardware solution?

I suppose you could splice a regular cassette tape into a loop. That's really the only other analog solution I can think of, unless you wanted to mess around with things like analog delay units.

If you didn't mind going digital, there's hundreds of 'loop samplers' out there..even something old and cheap like the Akai S01 or the Boss SP202 would work for you....and of course, you can do it right on your PC, as any audio program worth having has a loop function.

What kind of looping do you have in mind? Frippertronics-type stuff, or more avant-garde musique concrete experimentation?

Is there a device that could make a tape loop effect that isn't a reel-to-reel?  If there is I'd like to know how to go about obtaining the device. Thanks!
