When you buy your vinyl records, what are your top priorities and how do you arrange them? I personally go by the music so if I know the music is good (own on CD, MP3, or heard songs on youtube) I buy the vinyl, but only if its artwork is good. I have a very large list of albums I need to buy (based on lone Youtube and progarchives tracks) so my top priorities are based on artwork and how good it looks on vinyl.

Example: Let's say I love The Hazards of Love and Operation just the same amount, but I think Operation's artwork is better. I will obviously buy Operation before I will buy The Hazards of Love.

The fourth choice, I think. When a new album comes out by an artist I like, I prefer getting it on vinyl, especially if I like the artwork. But I have bought vinyls by artists I haven't even heard of just because of the artwork (or because I tend to assume that an album with great artwork usually has great music on it).

Isn't burning vinyls bad for the environment?

If the music is good, I will buy it. I like cool artwork, but its about the music for me.
Somewhere out of a memory of lighted streets on quiet nights...

It's the music, stupid - to coin a phrase.
A TVR is not a car. It's a way of life.

Always the music as first priority, and sound quality - good packaging is a bonus. Smile

1) I don't usually buy what I've not heard of. The Music.

2) the price has to be right (< $10, except for the kickass gatefold of Lamb I have)

3) I almost buy exclusively used prog, classical and electronic.

The music for sure. But I also buy used vinyls in a good condition, because I like to discover hidden gems.
Artwork doesn't really matter, but I like the cover to be in good condition

When I was buying them it was the music but I love cover art. At the other end of the spectrum with covers you can get them that bad they are good. Saw one on the Italian thread the other day and it was tacky.they had on these horrible tights but it is the music no matter what the cover.

70% appearance, 30% music. When it comes to vinyls, I'm more of a collector than a listener.
