Being a child of the 90s, Pokemon was a big thing when I was little. Thinking about Pokemon today, I took the 'evolution' aspect of Pokemon into account and wondered that if Progressive Bands were Pokemon, what bands would evolve into which bands?
An example of this would be Pink Floyd evolves into Anathema Edge Of Sanity evolves into Opeth etc... Yes evolves into Flower Kings does this make any sense, or am I tripping? Edited by Conor Fynes - October 02 2009 at 21:27 |

hahahahaahaahaha xD
sorry about the lol, but the analogy is hilarious xD yeah it makes sense, though I can't think of any band this way... but what do you mean with Evolve?? Cause I could say: Yes evolves into The Flower Kings... but everybody here knows that TFK is just another Yes inspired band... so, when this evolution thing works? |

It can be taken in many ways...
My examples were personal opinions on different bands with similar styles, and which ones trumped each other one, but that's a better way to put it. Influential Band Evolves Into Influenced Band Evolves Into Influenced Band etc... |

Ha! Nice one... King Crimson... the three eras, Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard... except the first era seems most like the Charizard... Ok more like Yes = Starcastle = The Flower Kings (gets worse then better) :P Genesis = Marillion = Spock's Beard (same) King Crimson = Tool Emerson, Lake & Palmer = Dream Theater Gentle Giant = Echolyn Pink Floyd = Porcupine Tree Van der Graaf Generator = Discipline (or The Mars Volta maybe) Jethro Tull = Phideaux (or The Decemberists) Queen = Muse Can = Radiohead (that's kind of an original one I think) U.K. = Transatlantic Camel = Glass Hammer Banco del Mutuo Soccorso = Frost* (ok, that's not that great, but think of certain Banco epics vs. Milliontown) Premiata Forneria Marconi = Rocket Scientists Black Sabbath = Opeth Ok I'm taking this too far... and besides... often the original is better than what it evolved into but oh well...

Confusion will be my epitaph. As I crawl a cracked and broken path If we make it we can all sit back and laugh. But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying, Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying |
