When your friend asks for a ride home and listens to your music playing in your car and criticizes you for listening to country music. You become so angry that you leave him a mile away from his house after giving him an extensive explanation of what prog rock music is.

True story. I mean how does Thick as a Brick even sound like country music?!

That's curious. What does your friend listen to?
The closest resemblance to country I can think of would be the acoustic parts.
Furthermore, I have yet to hear a country group use classical elements in their playing like JT does.
Sounds interesting to me. Smile

I actually think he has pretty good taste in music since he listens to Queen, Beatles, Ac/dc, that kind of stuff.
I refuse to admit it to him but he was the one who brought me into Rock from pop. He influenced me so much that I pretty much dislike all modern popular music now. And naturally, the transition from prog rock could only have happened after that for me.

And you're right, it was the acoustic parts that he commented on. I was about halfway through Part 1. I tried to explain to him what Prog rock is about but I don't think I did a good job of it. He told me he doesn't care about time signature changes or introducing violin to Rock music (no idea where he got that from, I just told him progrockers use multiple instruments).

And that's not the only thing he said. After about 10 minutes since I picked him up, he said "wait how is this music still playing?" LOL

OK, when you hear a noisy printer in the office, and it reminds you of "Tocatta" by ELP...

When you realize that saying "My favourite genre is Zeuhl and Magma" is a figure of speech called Zeugma.

True story: when the music folder on your hard drive is pushing 180gb and you estimate that's about 80% prog or prog related...

When you listen to 4\4 beat and find it strange because you are used to odd time signature.

I remember listening to Planet X for the first time... those guys made 4/4 sound stranger than any other time signature LOL

I once owned a printer that printed in 5/4 time, so I know where you're coming from there.

When Doctor Who mentions "Court of the Cyber King" and you can't help but emulate Greg Lake

When you consider a 10 minute song "too short"

When you listen to Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man" at an orchestral performance and expect Lake's bass to come in

When, upon hearing about Flo the Progressive Girl, you wonder what her favorite Yes album is

When you actually think Arnold Schoenberg's music is pretty awesome to listen to

When you make friends with a dude at your school because you were the first person in over a year to recognize his Magma shirt

When you want to punch someone in the face for saying they like progressive metal, then say As I Lay Dying and Avenged Sevenfold as their favorite bands

When rock bands have actually helped you listen to classical pieces you would have otherwise never heard

When you listen to a classical piece and wonder why ELP didn't rip it off (Seriously, Ligeti's "Hungarian Rock" was screaming for a prog cover")

When you discuss with friends, whether Janacek's Sinfonietta is better played by Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kubelik or by ELP.
