MST3K is fantastic, but I prefer their newer stuff on Rifftrax.

When you can't type out the names of your five favorite bands with the keyboard you currently have.
When you're learning your 4th made up language. When 80 minutes is the average album length on your itunes when Steve Vai isn't that over the top to you anymore when your cat is named "Yes" when you like albums with any type of characatured animal on the front. When you criticize an album for it's lack of xylophone. -Colin

When you're an athlete, and your coach tells you that you need more "focus and discipline," your first reaction is to go out and buy Hamburger Concerto and Unfolded Like Staircase.

THIS IS ME
My old band always made fun of me because I'd get mad if all of our riffs were in 4/4. |

I genuinely get uncomfortable drumming in 4/4. Apparently I make a concerned face whenever doing it.

I had a very similar thing happen to me. I had a friend from school who was a senior when I was a junior come over to jam with me and my band. His favorite band is Dream Theater. I start randomly playing Siberian Khatru (guitar), just goofing around, and he says, "Yeah man, we could totally play some country, too!" He was serious. I died a little bit inside. |

^ Some people (I'm one of them, but only on occasions) have a difficulty distinguishing country from folk (but it really depends on the material). I know it's off-topic, but just providing a simple explanation. One genre probably derived from another. ([whispering] btw, a friend of my stepdad's called KC's "The Great Deceiver" fast country. And there is nothing wrong with good country, e.g. Steve Howe.)
...dary!

When you become slightly distressed by the lack of a musical term for playing two different patterns in two different time signatures so they fall out of sync, a la King Crimson's "Discipline", because you find yourself talking about it enough that this is necessary. (Anybody know one? I'm told this isn't the same thing as polyrhythms.)

When you want to impress fellow forum members by what you post on the 'What are You Listening to Now" thread by not posting/listening to popular music, but unpopular music.

!When other people in society talk about the new Beyoncé's or Selena Gomez' song and you're killing them in your mind. When your favorite art is the cover art of your favorite albums. |

If this is not polyrhythms, what is it, then? (Yes, a rhetorical question.) I just call it "intertwining".
Gruesome. Usually on this site we try to be diplomatic. ... but then we just blow it. ... When you or your band were given a very limited amount of time to play on live broadcast, like 3-4 min, on radio or TV, but all of the sudden you think "Ah, f%$k it. Let's go for 10 more min.", and when you go overboard people start wondering what the f%$k you are doing, and then they cut you off.
