My search didn't reveal a Mostly Autumn appreciation thread, so I started one with the thought that there are some fans of this band out there.  I am a relative n00b when it comes to this band, as I have only heard their first two albums, but I really enjoy both of these albums.  I also have a Mostly Autumn DVD, that I've only watched once Embarrassed but that I did enjoy.  Maybe that'll get another viewing this weekend.  Hmmm.  Yes, that sounds like a plan.

Anyhow, please share your appreciation of this wonderful prog band.

I see that they have a Pink Floyd Revisited album. I've not heard it though.

The sound of crickets chirping.

Sorry, man.  I don't see you getting a lot of traffic on this one.  They are suspect from what I have heard.  But good luck with the thread.

Good band, back then, in 2001, their "The Story So Far... " DVD blew me away.
I love MA live records, albums from "For All We Shared" to "Passengers" are pretty good, though not without some fillers.

In my opinion things changed to worse from "Storms Over Still Water" (2005), some magic gone, Heather's attempts "to play a powerful singer" are annoying (Heather, please don't shout! Smile ). "Heart Full of Sky" (2006) was better, "Glass Shadows" (2008) suffers dramatically because of the absence of proper keyboardist, Bryan Josh solo album is not bad.

It seems to me there is some stagnation in MA camp. I wish the band to find some new ideas and sounds. I hope, but I'm not sure it will happen.

I love them to bits. The Last Bright Light is an amazing album, probably in my top 30 at least.

Love them. They are still my favorite post-70's prog band, I have been compulsively buying their stuff without hearing because I know it will have magic inside. However, there has indeed been a great decline in overall quality since their first five albums (even though they still put out amazing songs in more mediocre albums).

They still have their flaws, notheless Josh, who's not a great singer and whose guitar tone often draws comparison to Gilmour. I can stand it nicely, but others simply can't be bothered.

If you like the first two, I think its mandatory that you get The Last Bright Light (to me, it's the best album of the 21st century so far). MIBTLOTR and Passengers are also very worthwhile, but I would take a sneak peak at later albums before jumping in for those.

Being honest, the performance of Heather Findlay in The Human Equation led me to search for Mostly Autumn, and since I discovered them I have enjoyed theiur music, For All We Shared..., The Last Bright Light and Storms Over Still Waters are the albums I have, the 3 of them are very good.

I love Mostly Autumn. I have all their studio albums, except Passengers which will be purchased in the near future. I heard 'Half The Mountain' on a Classic Rock Magazine compilation CD and loved it. I think it may well have been the first modern prog track I heard.
I have seen them live twice and they were brilliant each time. After the second time I was able to have a quick chat with Bryan Josh, which was nice.
The Night Sky is probably my favourite track of theirs', don't think I can pick a favourite album.

^ If you don't have passengers then I'd recommend it. It's actually my favourite album of their's.

I really like them but later albums have suffered in an attempt to get a more rocky heavier sound. I prefer them in more mellow mode. Later albums still have many good moments though.

Along with IQ, the best band to emerge since the glory days of the 70s, and there weren't many then who were as good (Camel, Genesis, perhaps?).

Their own stuff is magical (Heroes Never Die, Out of the Inn, The Night Sky, Evergreen, Styhead Tarn/Shindig/Blakey Ridge, The Gap is too Wide, Never the Rainbow, Shrinking Violet, Helms Deep - I could go on! - are some of the best tracks ever recorded) and they do Pink Floyd covers better than Floyd themselves.

The Last Bright Light is the best album of the new millenium without any doubt. Why aren't MA lauded on here like The Mars Volta, Porcupine Tree and Pain of Salvation, none of whom is anywhere near as good? Is it that they are too "soft" or is it that people think (wrongly) that all they do is imitate Pink Floyd (cause Floyd sure as hell never did anything like Evergreen or Out of the Inn or Tearing at the Faerytale)?
A TVR is not a car. It's a way of life.
