Yes, but at the party did you do permanent damage to your ears, liver, or brain through abuse of volume/substances? I will take being lonely over hearing damage any day, and unfortunately these days you can't go to pretty much any party/dance without suffering hearing damage because the whole world has gone mad and deaf.

Also, I think reading is a superior solitary activity to music in terms of personal development, even if it's prog. :P

^^Clap - Here Here - I think this Rap/Hip Hop thing has completely ruined the initial sentiments of the OP - a world gone mad indeed!

I was away from the loud music for pretty much the entire party.
I am studying audio engineering, so I'm not stupid enough to stand there and let my ears get pelted with volume.
And I drank about 8 bottles of beer and many many glasses of punch and as a result there are certain things about the night I cannot recall exactly.
And besides, I spend a lot of my week studying audio engineering and reading anyway, so restraint at social events is generally not an option for me:P

@The Block : I cannot tell if you are a troll, if you are having us on or what, but the fact ANYONE takes prog rock this seriously is sad beyond words.
Do you know what I was doing on Halloween night?
I was out at a party, that was playing various crappy dance and pop music, having fun and enjoying life and meeting new people.

OMG THE HORROR OF IT ALL, I CHOOSE TO BE SOCIAL AND WANTED TO DO SOMETHING ELSE OTHER THAN LISTENING TO MY CHOICE OF MY MUSIC ON A SATURDAY NIGHT STUCK AT THE COMPUTER.

I must have made the wrong decision right, The Block?
I should have just stayed home, because prog rock is SOOOOOOOOOOOO important *rolls eyes*

Why are you so irritated...??? besides, what a hell you are talking about Halloween parties...??? I suppose you want to tell everybody that you actually went to something special for you...!!! my God, I do not care less about that, but I can tell you... I was suppose to go to a party and play there with my band, but the deal fall apart cause this guy didn't have enough money to pay us... was sad, but I still enjoy looking the Baseball game of the Yankies with my family... so, I suppose I'm wrong because I didn't do nothing social, right...???

Finally Mr. Plainview... we agreed in something, yes, reading -novels, real books- is really a superior solitary activity... priceless... ClapClapClap

prog is not a substitue for  life just a half of it.   life  was boring untill i heard my first prog album ,then i could go on journeys to another world and  then come  back to reality . thats what prog  is about. escapism. no other music can do that as good.

And now my point of view. Prog can be so important in your life that it can be viewed as substitute, but what's prog without other things I value a lot.

Having girl. You know, "The T", even you're some kind of anti-society freak (are you? :-D ), you have someone who loves you, someone who will stand by you. I for sure have someone like that.

These little pleasures, like eating food (I like a lot), chocolate and sweets, these things.

And even you won't get much friends through this style, it gives you confidence. When someone is talking about how cool Depeche Mode are, you just silently grins and knows yours ;-)
