Two weeks ago I bought Opeth's Ghost reveries. Because of this I really got into Opeth and I don't think I know a modern band (yet) that sounds this good. Anyway, I decided to look for another album. The ones I've listened several songs of were Still Life and Blackwater Park. I have decided to buy Blackwater Park, probably tomorrow.
I was wondering which album you all do prefer, as both albums have almost the same amount of ratings and the same amount of stars. (Still Life: rating 4.29, 257 ratings, Blackwater Park: rating 4.22, 245 ratings). So, according to the ratings Still Life should win this poll. On the other hand, Blackwater Park seems to be a "fan favorite". I'm very interested to see the results.

OOO very tough... I got into opeth exactly how you did floydispink, couldnt believe that a modern band could make such a good album as ghost reveries, So i began there and then got everything else. It is still my fave opeth album but Still Life id probably rate JUST above blackwater. Altho the title track from blackwater is just epicly heavy

I never found out what is supposed to be so special about Still Life. On the other hand, Blackwater Park is just a stunning album, and, in my opinion, the best by Opeth.

Whats your problem? Watershed is boring anyways.
BWP is my favorite Opeth album, the riffs, vocals, and production quality is all extremely high, 4.5 stars for me. Still life is good, but I really dont like the gritty guitar sound, and some of the riffing is a little corny IMO.

i also recommend My Arms you re Hearse... amazing album, really close is still life, and the balckwater park. The truth is that balckwater park is goob, but not so cohessive as the others. Have you heard deliverance and damnation? they are amazing you should get it too.

Another vote for Blackwater Park (get Deliverance as well while you're at it).

Blackwater Park was my fist Opeth. Apart from that, it's more focussed and balanced and it has better melodies.
