Both often ranked below Hot Rats and The Grand Wazoo, but still highly regarded as some of the finest albums from the Jazz Rock side by Frank Zappa.

VOTE AWAY..........

Two of Zappa's best and most underrated albums. Sleep Dirt wins by a hair, simply because The Ocean Is the Ultimate Solution probably is the best song Zappa ever created.

I wish I could vote.

I never have heard all of Sleep Dirt that I can recall, which is a shame since I really like what I have heard of it. Of course Waka/Jawaka is a very good album.

Are we talking about the vinyl version of Sleep Dirt or the CD version with vocals?

I actually don't have Sleep Dirt (yet), but I do enjoy Waka/Jawaka.

Waka.   Sleep Dirt is just a WB f**k you to FZ.  Lather is the appropriate release to have for the Sleep Dirt songs.

Can you tell me where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.

IF the cd version of Sleep Dirt didn't have the vocals I would vote for it right away, being the instrumentals are goregous...especially The Ocean Is The Ultimate Solution (which the Lather verison is no match for). I havne't heard the vinyl version.

Waka/Jawaka just may be FZ most underrated album as it is rarely mentioned but everytime I listen to it I am blown away. That trumpet in the title track...amazing!

I hate to vote against TOITUS but in this case I will. Its close, and even though the vocal songs are on it, Sleep Dirt is near essential for anyone interested in exploring FZ catalouge just a bit further than the obvious.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

Precisely! I've thought The Ocean Is The Ultimate Solution is something of a "forgotten masterwork".

I voted for the vinyl version of Sleep Dirt, more thoroughly composed songs (eg. Time Is Money)

I'll vote for Sleep Dirt(without the vocals), since I found while it doesn't have much of the jazziness that made The Grand Wazzoo/Hot Rats characteristic, I find Waka/Jawaka to be quite of a fail with the exception of the title track.

Two great albums.  Going for Waka, a work I listen to quite frequently, often back to back with the Grand Wazoo.
