Everyone here should have been watching "The Venture Brothers" tonight. It was all about the Prog! Doc had Dean listen to Asia, praised Roger Dean, and told his son that we wasn't ready for "In the Court of the Crimson King" yet. Freakin' beautiful!
Go team Venture! ![]() ![]() |

I was watching the new episode of "The Venture Brothers," and they included some pretty good prog jokes (and a mock prog music video, even.)
Anyone else see it?

Damn...I usually watch Adult Swim faithfully(especially on Sunday night) and missed this one because I was playing the new Grand Theft Auto IV expansion.
Hope to see it repeated sometime soon.

I tried looking for the episode in the videos section of the Adult Swim site but they don't have it up yet.Based on the schedule the episode last night was titled "Perchance to Dean".

That was an Asia album? The cover doesn't seem to match any of the covers on PA. While I never watched it frequently, I always enjoyed The Venture Brothers when I did.

Not quite. I guess it's a parody of their Arena album. The writers of this episode seem to be all over the place. Dr. Venture says "Now normally I'd start you off with Asia or something more accessible, but I think you're ready for the primo s***." He then goes on to say "Just say, 'Yes'" as he blows dust off the LP, thus suggesting it's a Yes album. After the clip is done Dr. Venture says something like "stop air drumming. Bruford changes the time so much you'll break your wrist." Bruford was never with Asia so the comment makes no sense and the song sounds rather Yes-like. The writers didn't get rights to the works so they changed all the album covers enough to be classified as parody. The In The Court Of The Crimson King album cover is distorted enough as is the Fragile cover in that clip. Later a few more album covers get shown. DSTOM has light being refracted by a trapezoid and 2112 is 1221. |

You'd think that with animation they'd be really careful about making sure there are no continuity mistakes before they start. |

If you don't regularly watch the show then you may not understand much of what's going on but the prog references are quality.
Here is the link to watch the full episode on Adult Swim's website:
