I would like to add a few albums to Friede's lists:

well-known albums:
"Abraxas" by Santana (for those who say that Santana are only "prog-related" I have to say that at least "Caravanserai" and "Abraxas" are full-fledged prog-albums in my book. I consider the latter to be the better album of the two, but it is not that well-known).

not so well-known albums:
"Space Shanty" by Khan
"Sea Shanties" by High Tide

little known albums:
"Eskimo" by The Residents.
"Roxcksession" by Embryo.

just a few which come to my mind right now

very diffucult choice but genesis won , they are all great albums and next pink floyd, jethro tull ,kc  .

In the Court of the Crimson King, and yes CTTE is awesome.  I think Lizard by Crimson is pretty awesome too.
