Hello everybody, in this period i re-discovered THE CURE, i love thier music, especially their first albums, "17 Seconds" (1980), "Faith" (1981), "Pornography" (1982). the last one is their masterpiece, very dark. After some mediocre albums, in 1989 they released their most successful album, "Disintegration" with very good songs, some pop rock songs and other more dark.

I must say that i love the dark atmospheres and i know many good bands, but i would like to ask you if you have some good suggestions, prog or not, thank you, bye...ANDREWWink

Was it the will of Andrew? LOL
A penny for my thoughts and yet I have to put my two cents in. What the hell is wrong with this equation?

If you're interested in the dark side of eighties music then I would suggest

Cocteau Twins - Garlands is especially dark
Siouxsie and the Banshees :  Ju Ju is 'dark'  or the live 'Nocturne' I believe the only album with Mr Smith on.
Sisters ' Some Girls Wander By Mistake' all the first ep's on one CD
Xmal Deutschland - Fetisch or Tocsin
The Virgin Prunes - If I Die I Die
Joy Division - anything you will know them of course!
Danse Society - not that I liked them

There is lots of other dark stuff from the times of 'Pornography' such as Sex Gang, UK Decay, Southern Death Cult, etc that have litte to do with The Cure but if you want to know about the scene at the time!

I am sure there is more modern stuff but still haven't found any  like so would be interested in suggestions - Nothing to dense for me though needs a bit of space.  If that means anything?

Hey, guys, wait a minute. One name: Bauhaus. The whole stuff, of course.
About "dark-prog", there are many threads about this tendency, especially in the Zeuhl and the R.I.O. styles. Some progressive-electronic acts can be very dark, not to mention the dark-ambient and ritualist style: Zoviet France, Rapoon, Vidna Obmana, etc.

I'm noticing your civilization right now just has this overall feel of a guy who's trying to get fired of his job.

Embarrassed  I was going to mention 'Bauhaus' oops!  Some tracks like Double Dare will have influenced the Cure' s Pornography me thinks.

Cocteau Twin's best album is Treasure, dark wave and ethereal. It sounds like it's from a dark heaven.

I also recommend Joy Division's Closer, and Talking Heads' Remain in Light. It's getting cold in November so you'll enjoy those albums more.
