Michael Manring for...JR/F?

I'm not sure if JR/F is the ideal place for him, or Prog-Related, or what...the point is, several of his albums are fairly innovative and rather unique.  His most recent album is all solo bass, no overdubs, etc., and on past albums he's had guests such as Tim "Herb" Alexander.  I feel like he's possibly worthy of inclusion on the site, though I could be wrong.  He was in McGill/Manring/Stevens, Attention Deficit, played on some Spastic Ink songs, etc.

There used to be a couple song samples available on his personal website, but I've checked it recently and they're no longer available.

Yeah, his music is hard to categorize.  I feel like some of his material could be worthy for entry into the archives, so I put forth the proposal.  Only time will tell if it was worth putting forth.  

Has anything happened of this?  I've been listening to one of his albums and remembered I suggested him a while back.

My favorite of his solo releases is Soliloquy, but unless you want only bass I'd recommend Book of Flame first.  Both are excellent, though, and Thonk has some amazing stuff on it as well.

Being a bassist myself, I don't mind an all bass album (though I don't believe I actually own one).  His instructional video is pretty neat.  He walks through the songs on Thonk that just have bass only, not how to play them but he shows how he gets certain sounds and he goes through some of his tunings.

Yeah I've seen some of the video online, it seems pretty interesting.  Especially if you're a bassist, you would definitely enjoy his newest release.  It doesn't involve any overdubbing or anything, and it has some of my favorites of his tunes. 

I'd say his first couple albums were mostly new age, but from Thonk forward I'd say closer to jazz rock/fusion.  Even on those first couple albums there are hints of things to come, such as his solo bass cover of Purple Haze on the album Drastic Measures.
