Brain Salad Surgery by a landslide.  Tarkus is good, but the title track is nothing compared to "Karn Evil 9."

Trying to compare all ELP albums between each other? Ok, Tarkus.

I'm not a big fan of either, but I like Tarkus more.

Brain Salad Surgery as an album (which I voted for), but the Tarkus suite as a track.

love both but Tarkus got me started and re-started on prog..nothing like it before (or since for that matter), maybe the single most imitated record in prog history, a church of Prog

BSS is more pompous than good (although it's brilliant). Tarkus is one megaparsec above.

Tarkus all the way!! Itīs the only thing ELP ever did to blow my socks off! The moogsolo at the end is just mindblowing, whilst it also sounds like an angry electrified duck.

Tarkus was my intro to ELP so is a sentimental favourite. I also find it more accessible than BSS.

Tarkus was how I got introduced to ELP, and so there's a lot of love there for that album, but I think there's a lot more going on with BSS.
So, though Tarkus was the hors d'oeuvre, Salad for once is the more fulfilling meal.

Brain Salad Surgery, ELP's masterpiece. The epic on side 1 of Tarkus is great, but the other side is just mediocre.

Both are great pieces IMHO, although I prefer Trilogy above them both. I chose Tarkus for it's raw sounding production. By the time BSS was done the production was just a little too polished and sterile for the music they were doing.
Thank you for supporting independently produced music

Has anyone else even heard side B of Tarkus? BSS by a mile.

Yup. BSS is consistently great while side 2 of Tarkus is merely good. It's a very close race however with BSS barely beating out Tarkus.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal.

Easily Brain Salad.  Although I don't really like ELP that much any more, BSS is a definite desert island disc (assuming I can take 101)

No, in all seriousness Tarkus is a pretty good album. Not much from ELP has mightily impressed me though.
