Billy Cobham is one of great fusion legend. He was an absolute star in early seventies, but slowly missed popularity. For a years he's living in Swizerland and few times every year still plays concerts ( with different projects).

Yesterday I saw one of this rare concerts in Vilnius,Lithuania. The show was sold more than week ago, so old hall of Russian Drama Theatre was full. Billy played with his Billy Cobham band as Vilnius Mama Jazz 2009 Festival headliner.

Billy Cobham band is one of Cobham project - mteam of younger generation mostly European musicians (BILLY COBHAM BAND : Jean-Marie Ecay - guitar, Fifi Chayeb - bass, Junior Gill - steel pan, Christophe Cravero - keyboards/violin). I was surprised, but Billy in his age played great high energy show , more than one and half hour without breaks. Don't expect news or experiments in his music - jazz fusion of highest standard with funk and world elements. Surprisingly, all the musicians were very competent, each of tham had possibility for some solos, and each of them showed their level. Billy played few drum solos as well and showed, that he still as great as 30 yrs ago!

If you wll have rare possibility still catch him playing live, just use it!
