Just intersted what are the opinions of proggers about them. Which of them possibly do you prefer.
Both originally hard rock bands but with unusual arrangements for that style, a lot of other influences, strong prog leanings, both featuring also John Lawton.

Voted for Heep (obviously).
Lucifer's Friend made one great album, "Banquet". Unfortunately their other records never reached the heights of this masterpiece.

Yes, I almost agree with NotAProghead. IMO,Lucifer's Friend has a very few great albums ( for me their debut is really excellent), but their later albums are not at the same level. Uriah Heep has some great albums and all line of average+ albums ( to be honest, they have some very bad albums as well). Voted for UH

I prefer Lucifer's Friend, both for the début and Banquet.

I actually voted for Lucifer's Friend! Shocked

I very much like both Where The Groupies Killed The Blues and Banquet - excellent albums! Very underrated! Mind Exploding is very good too. The debut has its moments, but it is a little bit immature and I'm Just A Rock 'N' Roll songer is a bit uneven.

Uriah Heep I like too, but many of their albums are sloppy and contain some bad songs. My favourite Uriah Heep albums are actually from the 90's (Sea Of Light and Sonic Origami) when the production values were higher and the quality control stricter. But the very best Uriah Heep releases are in my opinion recent live DVDs (Magic Night and Acoustically Driven are both great!) here we get many classic songs but more disciplined performances and modern sound. Great stuff!

I've seen them live IRL too a couple of times!

Agree, but Banquet is so amazing that I easily give this poll to Lucifer's Friend.

Uriah Heep without doubt, Lucifer's Friend is a good band (Even when I like their more Prog oriented incarnation called The Pink Mice without Lawton), but Uriah Heep is a transcendental band.

Their classic lineup with Hensley, Byron, Thain, Box and Kerslake, must be one of the best in history of Prog and Rock, to the point that not even the great John Wetton was able to fill Gary Thain's shoes.

Their choirs were outstanding the bass was impeccable, the tortured Hammond fantastic and of course David Byron's voice was superb.

IMHO of course

Iván

As it seems to me, Lucifer's Friend can appeal more on prog fans, because of greater variety of styles. Check out spooky and psychedelic Where Groupies Killed the Blues or brilliant jazz/fusion and symphonic atmosphere of Banquet.  Uriah Heep albums for me have a lot of highlights, but also fillers. LF albums hold better for me as a whole. Musicianship of bands and both Lawton and Byron are equally outstanding, but considering harmonies UH had stronger potential.
I count also UH work till Hensley was in, after that it is different band for me.. btw. it came to my mind because he is approaching to St.Petersburg next week)

Lucifer's Friend. they were phenominal, how they completely changed their style on their first six albums, but still remained instantly recognisable. Each of those albums, as different as they were, were absolute winners for me.

UH's albums on the other hand were quite interchangable during the Hensley years, and not worth listening to after he left. I have great difficulty rmembering which songs were from which albums, they were all just too similar, although highly recognisable individually.

From Lucifer's Friend's albums I like only their debut. The others didn't impress me at all.

While Uriah Heep is one of my favorite band. Their music (especially "Gypsy", "Shadows of Grief", "July Morning", "Salisbury" and many others) made me interested in progressive rock so I have big sentiment to them.

UH's Hensley, Byron, Box-led albums were really fantastic. I also like their 3 last albums with Bernie Shaw.
