Sorry about the messed up format, I don't know what's happened and can't seem to sort it out!

The Assembly in association with The Classic Rock Society are pleased to make their first band announcement for

Progeny 3 – The Return

Firstly, we are very pleased to welcome to the stage RPWL

Hailing from Germany, RPWL formed in 1997 as a Pink Floyd covers band. However, they were always interested in producing their own music and released their debut album ‘God Has Failed’ in 2000. Since then, they have released a further 6 albums and performed concerts and festivals across Europe and in North America, all the while developing their own sound and gaining great reviews. Next year will see the release of their latest studio effort and I know that they will bring great pleasure to you all.

Secondly, we are very excited to present the UK debut of Parzival’s Eye

Parzival’s Eye is the side project of RPWL bass player Chris Postl. They released their debut album ‘Fragments’ in September 2009 to much critical acclaim.

This record is a fantastic mix of progressive rock and mature rock songs, and features the guitar talents of Ian Bairnson (Alan Parson’s Project), along with the vocal talents of two of the best singers in the world of prog rock, Alan Reed (Pallas) and Christina Booth (Magenta).

For this live performance, Chris will be assisted on stage by his RPWL band mates as well as, for the first time, both Alan* and Christina.

I’m sure you will all join us in welcoming them to the Assembly stage with open arms.

*Alan’s appearance may, unfortunately, have to be cancelled at the last moment due to other commitments if the British government decides to hold its general election on Thursday 6th May.

Anekdoten have told followers on their Facebook page that they would like to be gigging in the UK next year (where/how many gigs not known), so if you Progeny guys read this, how about contacting them? As far as I know this great band has never played in the UK, so it would be a bit of a coup to get them! :)
Beware of the flowers, cos they're gonna get you yet!

The Assembly in association with The Classic Rock Society are pleased to make their second band announcements for

Progeny 3 – The Return

Firstly, we are very pleased to welcome to the stage The Future Kings Of England

From Suffolk, England, FKOE have released three albums over the past 5 years, the third of which, The Viewing Point, just a few months ago. Over this time they have earned themselves a strong following in progressive rock circles, along with much critical acclaim for their brand of pastoral, folk and psych inspired prog which produces a quintessentially English sound. Rarely playing live, we are, therefore, honoured to have them perform for you at Progeny 3.

http://www.futurekingsofengland.com

Secondly, we are very excited to present the legendary British space rockers Here & Now. Formed in 1975 they quickly became a staple of the British counter-culture scene, playing almost constantly on the free festival circuit. They were soon spotted by Gong bass player Mike Howlett who recommended them to Daevid Allen and they teamed up for the space-punk project Planet Gong. 35 years later, after several albums and almost endless touring, the current line up will be bringing their mind-blowing and energetic music to our stage for your aural delight.

These bands will join the previously announced RPWL and Parzival’s Eye in what, I hope you agree, is shaping up to be a great weekend.

The Assembly in association with The Classic Rock Society are pleased to make 5 (that’s right 5) more band announcements for

Progeny 3 – The Return

We are also happy to announce that tickets for this event are NOW ON SALE!

Firstly, we are delighted to announce that our headline bands for the weekend will be Mick Pointer’s Recital of the Script and Twelfth Night

Following the radical change that occurred to the popular music scene of in the mid to late 70’s with the rise of punk, new wave and electronic music, it appeared to many, if you were to believe the popular press, that prog rock was dead and buried. However, passions were reignited by another new wave, the new wave of British musicians who formed bands and were inspired by the old hands, such as Yes, Genesis et al.

2 bands at the forefront of this revival were, of course Marillion and Twelfth Night.

Whilst both Marillion and Fish continue to produce music and tour, the music that most fans of a certain age want to hear is the stuff that introduced them to the world. Therefore, original drummer Mick Pointer put together an all star band that features, among others, Nick Barrett (Pendragon), Ian Salmon (Arena) and Mike Varty (Credo) in order to satisfy the fan’s cravings. Having toured successfully across Europe for the past 12 month or so we are sure that their performance of the full set list from the original Script For A Jester’s Tear tour will be bring a triumphant close to our festival.

http://www.myspace.com/script0

Meanwhile, during those heady days, a bunch of guys in Reading put a band together called Twelfth Night. Equally inspired by classic progressive rock and music of the ‘new wave’ they created a unique and thoroughly enthralling catalogue of albums including ‘Fact & Fiction’, ‘Art & Illusion’ and, in my opinion, one of the great albums of that or any era, ‘Live & Let Live’, recorded over 2 packed and sweaty nights at the legendary Marquee Club in London.

Following a long period of inactivity, when all of the band members returned to the ‘real world’, the band reformed in 2008 and performed a handful of outstanding comeback concerts. Now, all of their material is being remastered and re-released and we are delighted to say that we have enticed them back to the stage to recall those heady days at the Marquee.

http://www.twelfthnight.info/

http://www.myspace.com/nighttwelfth

We are also very happy to announce the appearance of the following acts, The Tangent, Circulus and Pure Reason Revolution (subject to availability).

The Tangent is a project put together by the ever fertile mind of Andy Tillison. Over the past 5 years the band have released a series of critically acclaimed albums and appeared before rapturous fans at a series of concerts and festivals, playing their brand of Canterbury flavoured prog, with a modern twist. They’re bound to go down a storm.

http://thetangent.org/

Circulus hail from London and are a 6 piece band who have been producing their own unique brand of medieval, prog-folk for the past 5 years or so. Arriving on stage, dressed in traditional garb, I have no doubt that they will enthral all-comers with their mystical sounds, inspired, in their own words, by 16th Century lute music. I can’t wait!

http://www.circulus.org/

http://www,myspace.com/circulus

Pure Reason Revolution are the young band that burst on to the scene 4 years ago with their debut album The Dark Third, which mixed classic prog soundscapes with a modern indie attitude to produce something exciting and original. They quickly gained an avid cult following thanks to their energetic live shows, which also took in festivals in both Europe and North America. In fact, the buzz was so big that Steven Wilson got in touch and they toured Europe as support to Porcupine Tree in 2008. They followed this album with their sophomore release Amor Vincit Omnia, which took the original palette of sounds and then added to it with the inclusion of electronic elements and even dance beats! With a 3rd album in the pipeline for release next April we will be delighted to welcome them to the Leamington stage next May (other commitments allowing). Full confirmation will be made at the end of January.

The Assembly in association with The Classic Rock Society are pleased to make the following band announcements for

Progeny 3 – The Return

Firstly, we are disappointed to have to announce that, due to unavoidable circumstances, RPWL have had to cancel their appearance at Progeny 3.

However, we are absolutely delighted to say that they are replaced by the Scottish legends that are Pallas.

Continuing our ‘theme’ of The Marquee Club, circa 1982, Pallas are another band who rose to prominence during the early 80’s progressive rock revival. Although they have experienced the occasional hiatus over the years, they have never really gone away, consistently coming up with innovative new music. Now, they are entering the studio to record the sequel to their classic album ‘The Sentinel’, some of which you can expect to hear, along with a selection of classic ‘oldies’.

Next, we are equally delighted to announce that the Saturday special guest spot will be filled by The Elves Of Silbury Hill.

Now this may be a name that means nothing to most of you, but I promise you will NOT be disappointed! If you’d like to know a little bit more, try Googling their name.

Lastly, you will be pleased to know that Chris Postl and Parzival’s Eye will still be appearing at Progeny 3, however, they will now be the first band on Sunday, whilst Future Kings Of England will open proceedings on Saturday.

The Classic Rock Society is delighted to announce an addition to the Progeny 3 Festival:

THE PROGENY FRINGE FESTIVAL

This will consist of 3 very intimate acoustic gigs featuring 4 acts, as follows:

Friday 7th May 7.00-11.00pm
'The 2 J's', better known as John Mitchell and John Beck perforoming a variety of songs from their illustrious careers with It Bites, Kino and perhaps a few surprises. Plus 'Mini-Magenta', Christina Booth and Chris Fry performing an, as yet, undisclosed slection of songs. What a great night this promises to be!

Saturday 8th May 1.00-2.45pm
'Tinyfish Trio' - what a great way to set yourself up for the main event than to share music, laughs and a lunchtime pint with the always entertaining London lads.

Sunday 9th May 1.00-2.45pm
'Chris Johnson' - Best known for being a member of Fish's band, Mostly Autumn and now fronting his own project, Parade. A relaxing Sunday lunch in cosy surroundings, sounds perfect.

These shows will all take place in the basement bar of the Robin's Well pub, which is a 5 minute walk from the Assembly and also serves decent, reasonably priced food in the main bar.

Tickets are limited to 100 for each day and will only be available from the Classic Rock Society by internet or phone, www.classicrocksociety.co.uk, 01327 310088 and will go on sale in the next couple of days, priced as follows:

'The 2 J's' & 'Mini-Magenta' £10
'Tinyfish Acoustic' £5
'Chris Johnson' £5
or
Weekend Ticket £17.50 (£15 to CRS members).

Not so good news though is that we are sad to announce that both Pure Reason Revolution and Parzival's Eye have had to withdraw from the Sunday line-up at the main festival. This was due to circumstances beyond the control of both parties, but hopefully performances on these shores will be arranged in the future.

Now more good news. We are delighted to say that playing the 2nd slot on Sunday will be Solstice.

Originally formed in the late 70's early 80's this continues the festival theme of recreating those heady days in the Marquee and other locations when the new wavve of British prog was at it's height.
Their brand folk inflected, spacey prog always meant that they stood out from the crowd. With a new album being released in the next few days, expect to hear new material along with the classics. A great addition to the line up I'm sure you agree.

We expect to announce our Sunday openers very soon, so watch this space.

Progeny 3 is a 2 day festival of prog rock place at The Assembly, Leamington Spa on Sat/Sun 8th/9th May 2010.
Featured artists include Twelfth Night, Mick Pointer's Recital Of The Script, The Elves Of Silbury, The Tangent, Here & Now, Pallas, Circulus and The Future Kings Of England.

Weekend tickets are priced at £40 (£35 to CRS members). Day tickets are £22.50 and all are available from www.leamingtonassembly.co.uk and from the Classic Rock Society.

I look forward to seeing many of you at some or all of the above.

Tommo.
