can someone pleace recomend some records by Talk Talk i allready have the Colour of Spring and Spirit of Eden and i find both to be great, i hear alot of Roxy Music both vocaly and song structure (there is some glam rock elements on Colour of Springs), abit Roxy -Avalon textures, so can someone recomend some chillingly nice music in the spirit of Talk Talk.

If you like Spirit of Eden then you must get Laughing Stock, it continues what Eden started. It's My Life is a brilliant album as well, very synth poppish though. Renée from that album is perhaps my favourite Talk Talk song. If you like It's My Life, then you'll probably find something to enjoy on the debut as well.

Talk Talk's whole discography is good,so you might want to get the albums that you are missing.

You might also want to give Split Enz a try.I highly recommend their album Mental Notes.Musical genius Kevin Gilbert did a pop album with Patrick Leonard under the moniker Toy Matinee and their self titled album is,in my opinion,one of the best pop albums ever made.Gilbert made an honest attempt to create musically challenging pop and he did a wonderful job with this project.

Try and get their DVD from the Montreux Festival in 1986 (I think). Good selection of their hits up to and including stuff on The Colour of Spring. Mark Hollis and the band on top form.

^Oh yes, that one definitely. And Mark Hollis' self titled solo album, that's good stuff too, very much like the last two TT albums.

The next time I feel like listening to Talk Talk, I should dive in their Asides Besides collection, I bought that months ago but I don't think I've listened to it once straight through. Some unreleased stuff and lots of alteranates or remixes.

thanks I've bin thinking on buing Laughing Stock LOL

. I have heard so much grate reviews from it. i also will get a copy of It's My Life i kind of like New Wave so thats no problam (one of my gratest live concerts was a Pet Shop Boys concert an they are clearly New wave and art pop.

Hei.

Mark Hollis' solo album is an obvious choice. It's very calm and extremely beautiful.

For the more experimental side of Talk Talk, check out a band called Bark Psychosis. Talk Talk's drummer played with them on their album Codename: Dustsucker, and their other one, Hex, is great as well.

And the pop side: Tears for Fears' Songs from the Big Chair. It's great.

Talk Talk recommendations need to be based on what albums of theirs you like.Laughing Stock and Spirit of Eden are very experimental and are pretty much the basis for post rock.Their early albums are more pop oriented,even though Hollis was starting to experiment with The Colour of Spring(brilliant album).

Like a previous poster said,if you lik Spirit of Eden you need to get Laughing Stock and Mark Hollis' solo album.My Toy Matinee and Split Enz recommnedations are based on if you like TT's poppier work too.In that vein,you should also check out XTC and maybe Be Bop Deluxe.

One thing more - If you like Spirit of Eden you should check "Karda estra". I have their album "The age of science and enlightment" and it reminds TT with the slow tempo, melodic play and complicated construction.

Bark Psychosis - Hex (a postrock milestone)

The Observatory - A Far Cry From Here / Dark Folke (amazing alt-rock, acid folkin.....)

Actually, I would recommend The Seeds of Love instead. It's much more warmer and organic like Talk Talk's later albums and has the same approach to instrumentation.

Try some of David Sylvian's solo works e.g. Spirit of the Beehive. It has a similar feel to Spirit of Eden, which itself was influenced by Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, if you like jazz at all.

Great recommendations all. Can't think of anything more to add. Talk Talk is one of my favorite bands from the 80s - all of their albums are good. I'd definitely go for Laughing Stock next, though.

Great band indeed, and one you can play with girls around you without scaring the sh*t out of them.
I´d add Gazpacho´s "Night" to the recommendations with their very melodic approach. They have a laid back style that sounds so effortlessly. Reminds me of Talk Talk, even though they are a bit more rocking.

Yes, I agree! The album is called Secrets of the Beehive, though. Another more contemporary band I could suggest is Mothlite. They're very inspired by Talk Talk and some of the other bands we have mentioned here. This can be best heard on the preview tracks for the forthcoming album, but the also on The Flax of Reverie.
