Saw this band on the Wayside listing and thought I'd check them out on their website, and was very glad I did. I find the tracks on their site to be very good, and their style is certainly worthy of consideration under Jazz Rock / Fusion.
Link to website below: http://www.afroskull.com/ And to their Myspace page where full tracks are available for your edification: http://www.myspace.com/afroskull Apologies if they have been mentioned here before! To Obscurity and Beyond is now available! Get it now at Afroskull.com. "It's a high-powered groove generator, throbbing with jazzoid horns, all-around intense musicianship, pedal to the heavy metal tendencies (with Black Sabbath in the collective woodshed!?), and Zappa-esque compositional conceptualizing. Fused under extreme heat and pressure with a creative abandon and a gonzo attitude, Afroskull's music demands spirit-possessed body movements and has "Holy sh*t!" moments of revelation aplenty." - Home of the Groove blog "With roots in both the Big Apple and the Big Easy, it’s no wonder that when the guys in Afroskull get together something special happens. They’ve managed to combine hardcore rock n’ roll (claiming Frank Zappa and Black Sabbath as influences) with a huge helping of good ole’ fashion New Orleans funk, reminiscent of The Meters and even Maceo Parker, giving them a sound all their own…"New Orleans/NYC Superfunk,” as they’ve so aptly titled themselves." - Billboard's Mobile Beat blog “When Afroskull gets started up, they unleash a powerful giant . . . Unlike any other funk band in New Orleans, the ‘Skull produces a gritty, dark metal sound that can keep the house rocking the entire night.” - Offbeat Magazine, New Orleans “This is hard-core hard-bop with a thick, walloping sound that would certainly get you evicted if you cranked this stuff up higher than a 5 or 6 on your volume dial. Afroskull churns out intense funk-sludge that takes no prisoners.” - Where Y’At Magazine, New Orleans Edited by Takeshi Kovacs - December 17 2009 at 05:28 |

Still listening. Awesome! The next time I have a wild party at my house, I'm going to play Afroskull. Oh wait, I forgot, I never have wild parties at my house.
I'll mention it to the JRF team. Edited by Logan - December 17 2009 at 12:55 |

Just found out that the album is available on the iTunes store for just under £8. From what I heard of the tracks on the website, if you're into your Jazz Rock / Fusion / Heavy Funk blast, then you could do a lot worse than check it out!

I vote yes for Afroskull, you might want to send a PM to Alucard or Dick Heath to visit this thread, if you get one more yes vote from one of them, Afroskull is in.

Most interesting over the handful of tunes sampled - where can one get their album(s)? (would like to hear their studio sound as well as their live sound). Certainly a touch of brass rock there. Hints of Osibisa??

^ I keep pushing them in the JR collab thread, still waiting for one more yes vote. Don't worry, I'm on this one, they are a good band. Alucard is back in town, you might want to try another PM for him to visit this thread.

Afroskull has been approved with one more yes from Martin. If you want to write their bio, send it to me by PM, otherwise Sobb will probably write it.

For those of you wishing to check them out, the website below contains 'band authorised' downloads of several of their live gigs (hope this does not contravene any site rules). Enjoy!
