Definitely going to get LTIA, Red and Islands. If they're as good as the revamped ITCOCK...

I love this thread. I have more respect for Walter AND Vibey oddly enough. But I see both sides. I have often said slight imperfections give art a human warmth. Heart I had all the old vinyls, and I am fine with them. I bet the remasters in 5.1 do sound better, but that won't make me like them more. Bonus tracks are always nice feature, and profits are what keep the music industry alive, so I understand the incentive to make an update that much more desirable. It's  your money, after all, spend it however you like.

I really liked what he did with Islands, that's the only one so far that I've listened to with some care.

Too bad there wasn't a new stereo mix of Red on the reissue.

Once LTiA is done I'm going to order that one and Islands - the two I'm most interested in from the series.  Maybe I'll get Lizard and Discipline once Discipline's re-done.

Really hard work is being done for remixing Starless And Bible Black:

More "details" here: http://www.dgmlive.com/diaries.htm?entry=18459

Also, Steven Wilson said that the work on LTIA and Beat is done and the release is now up to the label to be decided.

I actually liked Orchestral Tubular Bells and Tubular Bells II until Oldfield went off the deep end. Why can't Fripp find anything that wasn't released like the Mahavishnu Orchestra's Lost Trident Sessions ( actually some of it was released as live material ). Even Bobby "Boris" Pickett's Monster Mash didn't have the hell re-mastered out of it in all it's re-releases.

Are you even paying attention to what's going on? Your alarmist ramblings are ill-informed, to say the least.

Don't want bonus cuts, live takes, demos, alternate mixes and alternate takes? Too good for remasters and additional fare? Your loss.

But he does that a lot, they release 70s/80s recordings with great regularity. They have about 900 buyers for such releases, usually. Smile

No, it's not left-over material. It's the master tapes. They didn't have them when they did the 30th anniversary remasters or any other re-release. When they did the 30th ann. remaster they only remastered the overdubbed tapes.

Wah wah. If you don't want it, then don't buy it.

It's not like Bobby 'Chuckles' Fripp is sending the goon squad to break your hiss-and-pop laden LPs and forcing you to buy the newfangled 5.1 Steve Whodunnit remix box.
I just wish he'd just make new bloody KC album. At least old bands like Hawkind, Uriah Heep and Yes still release new sh*t. Even Focus have a new album on the way. You don't see Thijs van Leer f**king around with old Focus tapes.

Well, keep wishing. In the mean time, at least check out the bonus/previously unreleased material. Some of it is absolute gold. Oh, do lay off the steroids LOL

Finding tapes that weren't available is "f**king" with them? That's interesting. LOL

^^ All the remixes are released on vinyl too. And everyone that has bought the new remixes says that they're worth all the money paid and more!

And what will these new remasters cost? Is he going to do the same thing as he did with ITCOTCK? Offer the single CD version as well as the super deluxe 5 CD blowout version Confused. Maybe this would have worked back in the days of vinyl but these days with the volume of music that's available on CD ( rapidly becoming a relic of the past ) and online one has to be rather selective when buying music. When that Great Deciever box set came out it was absolutely mindblowing. I couldn't stop listening to it. My girlfriend was ready to kill me. But I just think all this remastering is going into overkill. Unfortunately for me King Crimson has lost some of it's mystique because of this. Next thing you know we'll have a remaster of Absent Friends with enhanced audience. ( it was my buddy  that told Belew that joke to which he responded "we're working". Actually I wish he'd do that because I can't remember the bloody joke and you can't hear it on the Cd either Confused !

Look at Francis Bacon. He destroyed most of his works he did in the 40s. Maybe Fripp should just destroy everything Crimson then he wouldn't have to be worried about it being "unbearable".

I was reading an article with Jimmy Page in the latest Classic Rock and he says he left in tons of mistakes on Zeppelin recordings. But how many Zeppelin remasters have we hadConfused???? Duh.
