Is this incarnation of Uriah Heep worth the $40 US dollars to see?

As a British fan that has watched all the trials and tribulations of Uriah Heep over almost 40 years, then my answer is yes the last album Wake the Sleeper is almost everything that you would want from Heep on a Progressive, Hard rocking front and has the mood of albums such as Look at Yourself,Demons and Wizards and Sea of Light .

Any reservations I would understand as Heep have been a difficult group to follow as they seemed at times to possess almost suicidal tendency when at the top of their game.

Wonderworld seemed to spoil their opening list of Albums.
Fallen Angel was a mistake after Innocent Victim and Firefly
Conquest must have almost killed them straight after
Equator was brilliant ( As 80's rock could be) but unsupported
Raging Silence had credibility but was followed by the overly soft Different World

Sea of Light and Sonic Origami though are both sound so whilst it has been 10 years a consistent trend on the albums is back in place.

Hi Dave
I appreciate your enthusiasm re The Heep but I worked as Ken Hensley's roadie for some time in the 70's it certainly wasn't 'Easy livin'. But from a musical prospective the material would have been a lot better had Hensley allowed some more input from other band members, especially on Return to fantasy. ( my god how the royalties rolled in, eh Ken?) and where's the wonga you owe me eh?
Having heard their efforts day in and day out for god knows how long I think the road crew were somewhat better than the artists.
It really did end though when my very very good friend David died (Byron) I really think they should have called it a day there and then!
I'm afraid it's more Heap now than Heep

Well,

I managed to get some almost immediate response to my post so Uriah heep still split opinions. I hope people continue to go to their concerts though. No rose coloured glasses for Heep actually met Ken Hensley twice 1978 and 81 was not impressed with his selfishness.Met david byron twice 1976 and 80/81 he was drunk and rude on both occassions but did love their music.

To dimiss Lawtons singing would be unfair and he really is a gent and is very welcoming fairly sure it was him I wanted to hear again when the Hensley/ Lawton band toured. Kerslake , Box , Shaw and lanzon shared a very good evening with me and my wife in Switzerland totally off the cuff.

And their latter albums have had great quality.

Hi DaveG
I know what you mean about Hensley's selfishness, it was a big problem, especially for those of us who worked with him!
You mentioned about David being drunk when you met him, he was always drunk on stage but a very nice guy all the same. I kept an eye on him when we were on tour cos the booze and other stuff were in constant supply, 'Easy livin'!
I can't comment re Lawton as that was after my time with Heep
Unfortunately it is my opinion that John Whetton did not fit although he was easy to get on with he was on a different plane musically, but at least Mickey Box is still at it and it was a shame about Lee having to step down so that don't leave much does it?
I just wish they would bury it and leave to memory, but then I was with the original line up.
Sorry to chunder on but there aint much left.
Roadie11

The singer, Bernie Shaw, is a Canadian. Heep is the only band from the late sixties early seventies that can perform that material with credibility. I haven't heard the latest album but I hear it smokes. Heep are one of the very few bands that I would pay $40 to see. And I don't go to concerts that often anymore.
