I would like to suggest our relatively new band "DYNAMO BLiSS". The musical style is art rock with a nod towards symphonic and psychedelic (along the lines of Pink Floyd, 10CC, Beatles Sgt. Pepper era and early Electric Light Orchestra). A few days ago we released an album that's been two and a half years in the making: "21st Century Junk". The album in its entirety can be listened to or downloaded for free (!): For bios, members and more info: "The Beatles meet Marillion in a time warp and stop to pick up Be Bop Deluxe along the way ... absolutely brilliant!" -Keith "MuzikMan" Hannaleck-MuzikReviews.com Thanks for listening!

well done Dynamo Bliss especially to mention 'Fear Of Clouds' and 'Thin Air'
smooth songs, some rocking but mostly atmospheric melancholic parts, excellent vocals first of all - you shouldn't give this away for free! the references are well specified - Beatles - 10CC - ELO - Pink Floyd anyway - as for the fact that we are a prog archives ... I'm sure you will find several listeners resp. collaborators here who will question the proposed art rock category (concerning how we define it) ... we will see. But once again - this is a very good production ... congrats! |

Thanks again, Rivertree, glad you appreciated it!!
There was quite a debate over at the Prodigy forum whether the album should be free or not, it's a quite interesting read: There are many reasons for making it free. First and foremost it is available to all with an internet connection. Second, it can be debated whether you can charge for arrangements of bits traveling through the internet (I'm not saying it's wrong, just that it should be open for debate). It would be interesting to hear more opinions on this. Yes, concerning the genre I think you're right. I'd be very happy to hear how people would classify the music.

If evaluated for Prog category inclusion, then Crossover seems the obvious choice
-- otherwise Prog Related (though it's not easy getting in to that
category).

I'm a bit curious to why "art rock" is not defined as a separate genre here on Prog Archives when there are genres like "fusion" and "math rock" that could be considered just as or even more peripheral. Anybody knows?

It was until a couple of years ago, when - for a number of reasons - it was split into three subgenres, Eclectic, Crossover and Heavy Prog. With over 400 entries, the section had become unmanageable, and included bands as diverse as Gentle Giant, The Moody Blues and Rush. Anyway, those three subgenres taken together make up the 'Art Rock' category, offering a higher degree of accuracy in the classification of bands. |

Thanks for the info, Raff. I didn't realize those genres where in fact subdivisions of "art rock". But now that I know, it makes sense.

Thank you pr@halfpastfour.
I checked out your site and it looks great. The music reminds me a bit about later Soft Machine but with added vocals. Great work!

We've recently signed a deal with brand new Swedish progressive label Aerodynamic Records to release our debut album "21st Century Junk" as a physical CD in addition to the already existing digital download.
