The Glass Prison for me - brilliant. The Great Debate is excellent too.

This is a tough one. For me it's their second best album (after SFAM).
Disc one is absolutely superb from start to finish, as consistent a disc as you could ever hope for. I think I prefer this disc - all the songs are great. Whilst the suite is absolutely outstanding in some sections, for me the piece as a whole is a little lacking. Despite this, the very best parts are the better than any other on either disc. If the suite had been broken down into it's various parts my favourite track on the album would have been easy - The Test That Stumped Them All. The suite builds fabulously up to that point but the rest of it from then onwards is not as good, IMHO.
I thought seriously about The Great Debate and Blind Faith (why doesn't Labrie contribute more lyrics, his are good?) but eventually went for The Glass Prison. I'm a little biased, but that's the first DT track I ever heard.

I didn't vote for the song Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence because I don't think it's fair to include it on this pole. It it the best song but it's not in the same category as the others unless you wanted to break down each part. I had to go with disapear even though it's not the best technically or as far as musicianship. It is just one that I have an emotional connection to. I absolutely love every song on this album except the great debate. I feel that all the little recordings of people talking gets in the way and that even though that sort of thing can be good to incorporate, I think they take it too far. While the song is musically great I feel it detracts to have so much recordings.

The SDOIT suite on Disc two is my fave. Surprised at the lack of love for it here.

I'm voting for it as well. A great song crowned by two of my favourite Rudess soli.

CD 1 of Six Degrees is my favourite disc from DT, however I have never really liked CD 2 very much. However, it's really difficult for me to choose one song from CD 1, I would leave Disappear out, and even though I love The Glass Prison, I would discard it too because it's got some tedious soloing. But between Blind Faith, Missunderstood, and The Great Debate it's just very difficult. Well, perhaps now I'm feeling inclined towards The Great Debate, besides, it needs some support.

The CD suite was designed to be the album's highlight, so it all comes down if you are really impressed by it or none at all or so-so. Having said that, I voted for it but I also want to poit out that 'Misunderstood' and 'Disappear' are lovely gems of 00s-era Dream Theater, my personal highlights from CD1.
Kind regards.

Had to go for The Glass Prison, which is pure excellence from beginning to end.

I've never made it through the suite because the horrible, cheesy beginning.
I'll vote The Glass Prison for the riffage. |

And lo, the mighty riffage was played and it was good

Either Blind Faith or Misunderstood. Both beautiful songs IMO, but I can't decide which one I prefer.

It could be any of the first three songs, but i'll go with Misunderstood just to tie things up.

Disputed poll, even though I think the suite will win.
Voted for The Glass Prison. And, by the way, Blind Faith is arguably the most underrated DT track ever (as is most of SDOIT disc 1)! |
