According to Vincent Cavanagh's Twitter (http://twitter.com/VincentCavanagh) new Anathema's Album is being mastered.
Let's hope the long wait is about to end! (And let's hope it's about the actual new album, and not some best-of, live or acoustic-miscellaneous)

I would like to hear your opinions on this.

I feel that Anathema have lost completely their inspiration in composing after Judgement. I found the last two studio releases quite boring and ''flat''. Excuse my pessimism, but based on the few single tracks they have released since then, I do not see this pattern changing. Any thoughts?

The 3 songs I heard from their website (3 years ago) were in the same direction as A natural disaster, so I think there will be a prosecution in this mood. But unlike you, I think that A natural disaster is an excellent album, origina, deep, touching and emotional - unlike Fine day to exit, which I find flat as you say.
I'm quite optimist - Steven Wilson also should be the producer, and Douglas Cameron's female voice should be a steady member of the line up in all tracks. Let's see.
I just add that 6 years is too much a long time, and disappointment will be very easy to get.

I've only got A Fine Day To Exit, but I'll consider getting this one (and perhaps ordering it with Judgement) sometime. Thanks for the heads up

I agree to a certain extent.
I'd say "Judgement" is their most gripping album indeed, but I think "A Fine Day To Exit" is their best musical achievement.
From then on it sure went downwards.

The fact that it's 7 years since the last studio album is a bad sign as well.
I know they've had problems finding a label but that has never stopped other artist from continuing to write music.
So the whole wait indicates a diminishing inspiration and motivation.

In other words, I'm not expecting much Confused

Here we are, at last!
Anathema's new album will be out on 31st May

The title will be "We're here because we're here".
I don't know if that's a Rush quote (from Roll the Bones) but the title seems coherent ;-)

Let's hope they put a bit of bite back into it.

Thumbs Up
