... with some disco groove.

Excellent music.  Lucifer's Dream is a fantastic album with Eastern, psyche, jazz-rock and pop qualities. I think Krautrock describes it quite well whereas the next is more jazz-rock.

Shame this is the only youtube vid from it.

Ralf Nowy is a lesser known jazz-rock saxophonist. On his first (solo) album Lucifer's Dream (Global 26015-8U) (1973), the Amon Duul II related musicians: Lothar Meid (bass), Keith Forsey (drums) and Alois Gromer (sitar) participated. Others involved were: Andy Marx (guitar), Paul Vincent (guitar), Don Anderson (keyboards) and Gary Unwin (bass). On the album they presented an interesting ethnic-flavoured jazz-rock fusion. With Vincent, Forsey, Unwin and Thor Baldursson, the group Nowy were formed in 1974 and released two more conventional jazz-rock albums on Atlantic. On Nowy 2, Nick Woodland (guitar, Englishman of Gift and Sahara fame) and Lothar Meid guested. Ralf Nowy later played with the rock'n'roll band Morgenrot.

As Between, and Brave New World is also considered krautrock, I guess that's were Ralf Nowy belongs too. Of course none of them would be lumped in there if they were located elsewhere than Germany.

Anyway Lucifer's Dream is brilliant easternflavored, symphonic, jazzrock-fusion. Based on that one, he sure belongs here.

Sounds good. Definitely worthy of inclusion. This almost sounds like Prog-Folk to me, but JR/F and Krautrock could be good too.

Thanks for the responses.  Yep, definitely should be in PA.  It does have pastoral folk aspects too and nice symph qualities as noted.

He could be included in an Art Rock sub such as Eclectic, or Crossover for the mainstream qualities.

Take this later Nowy single for instance:

Eclectic might be a good place. I didn't like the last sample you posted, but the first was interesting, as I stated above.

Wow, amazing! Big smile
I agree with Gabriel ... wonderfully Acid-Folk-ish fragrance emitted, rather than Kraut one. Thumbs Up

It's a fabulous album, and while Acid Folk is a component (and of course I love acid folk so that partially explains the immense appeal), I wouldn't see it so readily in Prog Folk.  It's also funky, pastoral/ symphy. jazzy, rockin' etc.  Judging that album alone, and not considering country, I would've thought Eclectic-oriented.  One can't really judge it on that one track,  It is commonly regarded as part of Krautrock .
You can listen to short samples at emusic to get some feel for the album (they classify it as jazz): http://www.emusic.com/album/Ralf-Nowy-Lucifers-Dream-MP3-Download/11597286.html

The bit from Lucifer's Friend is very nice with an oriental/world music flavour. Reminded me of East Of Eden with a lesser eclectic approach.

Dfficult to judge his worthiness of PA inclusion from just two samples. How representative of his output are they?

The first track is more representative, the second is a bit of an oddity (an Italian "single" release), I think, which I included more for fun (I commonly don't even find it listed under his discography).  Lucifer's Friend covers  a much broader range of styles which is why I consider it to be more of an Eclectic album (I know it's not much, but check out the emusic link I provided for short samples of the album).  The follow ups are more funk/jazz-rock, I believe.  I'm sure that Nowy is suitable for PA, but certainly more material would be required for the evaluators.

Lucifer's dream is a top class krautrockin' trip with lot of moods, epiphanic-luminous sound textures and tripped out vibes. thanks to remind us about this old classic. The rest of his discography is continuously enthusiastic but more kitschy and fashionably jazzy. he can easily be added in the krautrock subgenre next to others jazzy kraut combos such as gebarvaterli, Xhol, Ibliss, Annexus Quam (...)

I didn't notice you response until now (I was hamming it up too much at metalarchives LOL).  Excellent!  I'm way behind on additions (one in particular that has just proved a bit difficult in preparing), but will add Nowy ere long.  Thanks!  Lucifer's Dream truly is wonderful album, and his others are good too.

Thanks; I've added Nowy now, but not all of the albums yet.
