Topic: Arjen Lucassen's Guilt Machine Posted: March 21 2010 at 18:48 |
Exactly what the poll says. I' give a further opinion after I see a few initial responses, but I voted the last choice.

I don't think I've heard enough of Guilt Machine yet to be able to vote. I love Ayreon though.

The approach and sound is somewhat different, but the musical themes used, the way the songs build up and the overall mood is highly similar to Ayreon. In fact, -many- themes from Ayreon's latest are reused on Guilt Machine.
Good music though, even if it doesn't offer anything really new from Arjen.

It's different, and I like it. To those who find Ayreon and/or Guilt Machine lacking progress, I would say that sometimes writing good songs with interesting topics is preferable to cramming the music with progress/experimentality for the sake of progress/experimentality, or because fans demand it. But of course that's only my opinion.

I actually thought it was very different than Ayreon, minus Twisted Coil. The melodies were a lot more subtle and dissonant, the production not nearly as bombastic. I agree with all the people that noted a darker turn. Especially sounded great on Leland Street. Overall, I think it's a great progression, w/o throwing out his Ayreon roots. Looking forward to many more Guilt Machine releases.

Similar to Ayreon and great. It is really hard for me to find a bad space rock album, really. One of my favorite (if not THE favorite) genres in prog rock.
