Trikolon was short lived band from Germany which later evolved into band called Tetragon (this one already in PA). Band's line up:

Hendrik Schapes - Keyboards, Trumpet
Rolf Rettberg - Bass
Ralf Schmieldling - Drums

They recorded only one album in 1969 called "Trikolon" (recorded live). Track listing:

Tracks:
01 - in search of the sun
02 - trumpet for example
03 - hendrik's easy groove
04 - blue rondo
05 - fuge(CD bonus)

Their music is very similar to The Nice and other organ-driven trios from late 60' and early 70'.

Record company's Garden of Delights review:

"Typically thorough reissue on Garden of Delights of the exceedingly rare (only 150 made) self-released 1969 album by a trio of organ/piano/trumpet/vocals, bass and drums. Obviously very influenced by The Nice and perhaps to a lesser extent early Soft Machine, this album was recorded live to stereo tape and has a really raw feel to it. The band later metamorphosed into the equally obscure Sixty Nine (a drum and keyboards duo). Includes a thorough band history, many rare photos and even a bonus track. [Garden of Delights]"

Trikolon was rejected by Symphonic, with a recommendation for other genres.

FANTASTIC!!!!!

But not sure if Symphonic, lets see song by song:

  1. In Search for the Sun: Pure Acid Psychedelia, lots of jamming and spectacular organ, even when 1969 is a bit late for this style, lets remember that the band is from Germany and that Psyche was mainly a San Francisco & London movement, so 1 or 2 years late is not too much..
  2. Trumpet for Example: Some sort o Acid Psyche/Jazz fusion, again great jamming, the organ and the rumpet are simply outstanding.
  3. Handrik's Easy Grove: Jazz/Clasical Fusion the piano is delightful, hardly could get better.
  4. Blue Rondo: Dave Brubeck's famous track with a strong The Nice influence, the keyboard is not as strong as Emerson's, but the sound of the band as a whole is much better.
  5. Fugue: Bach played with Psyche influences, again impressive.
The bass is out of this world.

The album is more than outstanding and 100% Prog, sadly Proto Prog is considered a non Prog genre instead of the first stage of Prog, because there's where it belongs, but being that this is Progressive Rock at it's best, I would go with Psyche or if rejected Eclectic.

Thanks for the tip, loved the album from start to end.

Iván

Seconded by Guigo

I wonder why Trikolon aren't already in PA... I know they're barely Symphonic but a place here is deserved.

Eclectic? Kraut? JR/F? Embarrassed

The options we gave are there, we believe Trikolon should be in Prog Archives but not in Symphonic.

^ So has the band been referred to another genre team?

Hi Harmonium, we always refer them to other teams if we believe it belongs in Prog Archives but not in Symphonic, I believe I referred them to Psych and Guigo to Eclectic.

Not sure though.

To be checked (not sure if they were a krautrock act) and not to be confused with another band named CLUSTER (already in PA's krautrock realm).

Please, PM me your opinion and post it in the Symphonic Team thread.

Cheers

That's cool, I hope they get their fair evaluation from the teams. Thumbs Up
