Is 'The Elder' By Kiss a prog album?

I noticed it made it in the section of prog magazine 'Its Prog Jim but not as we KNow it'

The album sounds prog - its a concept album certainly

time sig changes in all the songs on side 1 and the songs run together
Under The Rose features time sig and prg riffs, in varying signatures, chord breaks etc

the fanfare

Only You is prog

listen to under the rose now - definitely prog time sigs

and The Oath!

and Escape From the Island - awesome

and the finale!

judge this as prog and be my friend for life!

Of course not. It's KISS, after all. All your logical arguments are pointless.
Bigger on the inside.

FYI: I moved this to General Music Discussions since Kiss is not in PA.  There have been various discussions on this, and some might think it's yet another reason to have an album based category (generally for albums by bands/ artists that only made one, or two, Prog albums but have extensive non-Prog careers -- we already have the Various Artists album-based category), but I find the album more Prog-Related sounding than Prog.  It is a sort of art rock album, and many artists had done similar things.

Just a side-note: not that I see you proposing Kiss for inclusion, but I'd sooner see Alice Cooper in.

EDIT:  It's a concept album with similarities to Prog albums, but I still see it as much more of a hard rock/ art rock album than Prog proper.  And it doesn't even sound that progressive (adjective) for an album of its time to me.  Had it been successful, maybe KISS would have gone in a more Prog direction (but that's past the "Prog-era", so....).  It's still too firmly rooted in the rock & roll (blues-based hard rock) tradition to my ears to be Prog proper -- related I can accept.

There is certainly a case for Alice Cooper's inclusion on the site - From the Inside is one of the finest albums I own, and has many prog moments, as do a lot of his other music.

Not Kiss, though. They always struck me as being extraoedinarily silly, but not prog sillyLOL

Yeah, I do think Alice Cooper has a real case.  KISS, not really, and if I wanted silly in, I'd rather see Spinal Tap included.

I can see Alice Cooper in prog related too as he had a lot of concept albums and prog elements now and then. Good call.

i can see why Kiss will never be in the PA but the album was prog. A one off but prog! At least admit that proggers.

if you have to ask whether it's prog, then it's prog.

Prog magazine seems to be a lot less conservative about what can called 'prog' than this site, right? I don't get the criticism of this mag on PA. I think its great theres finally a dedicated prog mag on the shelves.

And yes, this album is prog.
Hello, mirror. So glad to see you, my friend. It's been a while...

For a while I was thinking about this, I'm a massive KISS fan!, But after some thought, I think it actually has more of a Folk sound to it, Yes some of the songs are "proggy" but the album overall... more folky in my opinion.

The one thing that annoys me about KISS, is that they always say stuff like "We give the crowd what they want to see and hear", yet if someone requests "The Elder" they have a mental break down...
At least they try play the elder.
