I searched for a similar poll, and didn't find one. Then I made a mistake trying to make this poll earlier, and deleted that one. BUT! Here is the final poll, as originally intended. One "song" per artist, of these that I consider absolutely essential prog magnum opi. Of course, there will be some debate as to which should have been included or not, but I will add no "other" option, kindly just tell me in your posts. I think and hope that this is an interesting poll indeed.

In that case you must have missed a similar poll that I conducted less than a month ago. LOL

I definitely welcome all of these type of polls since this music is essential to Progressive Rock! Wink
I'm not sure if King Crimson's can be considered a magnum opus since it's only 12 minutes long especially since the band also recorded Lizard. Still it definitely gets my vote!

Okay, okay, you got me....my definition of "similar" happens to be "exact same poll with the same choices available in the same order with the same title and question"......LOL.

And that's you and me both for Starless, all 12 minutes of it.

Why is "Magnum Opus" not on the magnum opus list?

I voted for Plague of Lighthouse Keepers, because I've been exploring VdGG these past few weeks. But Supper's Ready was my first prog Magnum Opus.

So many fantastic songs, and I'm afraid to say there are 2 songs I don't know from this list, hoewever I must choose Shine on you Crazy Diamond. Perhaps not the most complex song but indeed it's got such beauty all around. However, I do love all the songs I know from the list. Now, it would be interesting if someone got to the task of getting all the favourite songs from the big prog artists (just the way a few months ago Starless was chosen, first asking a list of favourite song in top 10, then counting the most recurrent songs and puting them for voting); and then having all the winners from such artists, puting them on a new poll to get the very favourite prog song... however I would certainly be too lazy to do that.

Supper's Ready, but partly because I don't consider "Close to the Edge" to be Yes' magnum opus.

I voted just to get Suppers Ready back on top......I have learned to love a lotta of Prog since I first came to the Archives...Expanding well beyond the classic 70's symphonic, but I will also regard Suppers Ready as THE greatest PROG piece of all time....

Thick as a Brick. Starless comes close musically but not lyrically.

Why not "Lizard" instead of "Starless"? If anything can be called the magnum opus of King Crimson, it is that..
I also consider "The Gates oif Delirium" to be better than "Close to the Edge".
Some other suggestions from other bands: "Phallus Dei" by Amon Düül 2, "Call" by Embryo, "Immer Lustig" by Guru Guru., "Solar Music" by Grobschnitt, "Mekanik Destrujtiw Kommandöh" by Magma, "Clearlught Symphony" by Clearlight, to name but a few. The list could be continued endlessly.

Really don't mind if you sit this one out

Tull of course....

Was very tempted to go for Tubular Bells though...just because no one has voted for it.

7 of 9 are 5 star songs for me.

Suppers Ready, probably. But the Floyd track, and Starless.. TAAB... All amazing songs and made it a hard choice. I really should hear the Lighthouse keepers though
