Eelctra was a German symphonic prog rock band created in 1969 in Dresden city. They've recorded quite many albums but their most famous one is the debut  Adaptionen (from 1975). This instrumental record is full of progressive rock (with jazz hints) versions of famous classical pieces (like Sabledance, In the Hall of the Mountain King, Turkish March etc.). Lots of keyboards there (especially Hammond of cource :-). It's very similar to other German band - "The Pink Mice"(already on PA).

(frankly speaking I don't know any other albums of this formation)

line-up:

Bernd Aust (saxophone, flute), Wolfgang Riedel (bass, 1969-74, 1976-present), Ekkehard Berger (guitar, 1969-74), Peter Ludewig (drums, vocals, 1969-74, 1976-83, 2002-present), Karl-Heinz Ringel (keyboards, 1969-74), Michael Demnitz (bass, 1974-76), Hans-Peter Dohanetz (keyboards, 1974-76), Stephan Trepte (vocals, 1974-78, 1989-present), Peter Sandkaulen (guitar, 1974-76), Gisbert Koreng (guitar, vocals, 1976-89), Rainer Uebel (keyboards, 1976-85), Manuel v. Senden (vocals, 1978-89), Dietmar Stephan (drums, 1983-89), Andreas Leuschner (keyboards, 1985-present), Eckhard Lipske (guitar, 1989-present), Volker Fiebig (drums, 1989-96), Falk Möckel (drums, 1996-present)

The samples don't work for me, I don't know why.

Check clips on amazon: http://www.amazon.de/Sixtinische-Madonna-Adaptionen-Electra/dp/B000J3OHZM?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1193218538&sr=8-1

I've never had any problems with audio clips on Amazon.

One of the latest discoveries for me. I wanted to suggest this band too. I vote with both hands for their inclusion. In my opinion, symphonic is a better category for Electra.

I don't think "Adaptionen" (btw, it's second album by Electra) is the band's most representative album. "Electra 3" (1980) and "Die Sixtinische Madonna" (1980) present themselves equally good symphonic prog, maybe even better, but composed by the band members: http://www.ostmusik.de//electra.htm

Please let me know if music samples are necessary for evaluation.

Just been notified today in the thread.

Been listening most of the samples and I don't believe it's Symphonic:

I listen:
  1. Heavy Prog
  2. Hard Rock
  3. Some Symphonic
  4. Jazz - Fusion
  5. Folk a la Jethro Tull
  6. Mainstream

Sounds to me as Eclectic, yes it's Prog BTW.

Listened the three samples closely

  1. Tritt Ein In Den Don: Pure Heavy Prog with Neo Classical souunds, I like it, but not Symphonic
  2. Turkischer Marsch: Jethro Tull (Or Dave Brubeck's Blue Rondo A La Turk) inspired music (they should pay royalties LOL) mixed with some sort of Psyche and Fusionesque sections...It's a version of Mozart's A La Turk, but not Symphonic.
  3. Die Sixtinische Madonna: Hard Rock, distorted guitars, maybe Heavy Prog

Not sure if Eclectic or maybe Crossover due to the strong mainstream and Hard Rock.

I would compare them with JOY by THE VENTURES (Even when more Prog) than to THE PINK MICE

Yes, they play music of Classic composers, but they blend many styles and genres in that performances.

My opinion is still CROSSOVER, because they have a lot of mainstream.

But again, we are working with selected samples.

You're right, Ivan.
Maybe now Crossover team would evaluate the band.
