Some people may have that one that's a no brainer.
A little harder for me. I will take Enigmatic Ocean by Jean Luc Ponty |

I think there is a small error: "Scenes from a memory" and "Metropolis pt2" are different names for the same album xD

For one shining moment, Jethro Tull ruled the world with Thick As A Brick.

For me, the choice was relatively easy:
The reason I chose The Lamb is because it really has everything a progressive fan could want: outlandish lyrics, emotional vocals, highly inventive arrangements, killer improvisations, all-around solid production, and it's a double album (this gets extra brownie points from me). Whether one likes or dislikes The Lamb doesn't matter to me as I think it's just the greatest prog rock album ever released. Gabriel's swan-song with Genesis and the only album of it's kind by this highly influential band.

Lot of good picks here. Need to give my own shout out to "Caress of Steel" (Rush).
Probably my two of my favourite 3 or 4 favourite Rush epics are back to back on this one: "The Necromancer" and "The Fountain of Lamneth". |

Would have to dark side of the moon, but my vote for the most emotional prog masterpiece is Sylvan's posthumous silence.

Currently, I'm obsessing over Magenta's The Twenty-Seven Club. Just perfect. Every note, every progression, every word from Christina. Never-ending bliss for 65 minutes......

Last minute switch from Scenes from a Memory to Snow (Argh Bridge Across Forever is now tempting me). No, Snow.

it should be hard question... #1 prog masterpiece... jesus christ there have been so many great prog albums. so many perfect or near perfect albums.
However still after all these years... it really isn't that hard and my vote would still be for this. This album more than any other is the one that my non-prog loving friends ADORE and want to hear more of.. yet that is the genius of it. You will never find another masterpiece that captures what this album did. |

Yeah, boring choice, but Close To The Edge is it. Thick comes next, followed by Faust's s/t and Foxtrot

I believe that there is a LOT of masterpieces, essential albums that everyone should listen because of their importance, etc.
So, we have to admit that this choise (only one) is strictly personal, even if it comes with a big rationalization... ...all of this to say: Thick as a Brick. |
