Maybe not the proggiest band around, but they always have great energy and awesome atmosphere in their stuff. Plus it rocks!

Savatage is one of my favorite bands, and Streets: A Rock Opera is one of my most beloved albums. I would have voted for Believe, but since that isn't an option, I'll go with Can You Hear Me Now?. A very powerful song.
The Hourglass was a close second. |

All, I'm a huge fan, I simply love this band. Anyway I've voted with Ghost in the Ruins

It was about time .
Ghost in the Ruins - it's got it all: atmosphere, technique, excellent song-writing and an epic chorus; other awesome songs include Gutter Ballet, When the Crowds Are Gone, Hounds, Streets... Quite a handful, actually. Not enough talk about Savatage around here. |

I agree, that's why I made this thread. I have trouble liking some of the earlier stuff sometimes, but I just have to remind myself not to be a stuck-up douche. However, Dead Winter Dead is the best one they ever did and quite possibly the best album of all time. Streets is good, but it gets too ballady about halfway through. Don't get me wrong, Savatage writes a mean ballad, but I think if they'd sat on the material for a bit longer they might have come up with some more enjoyable accompaniment to the awesome lyrics. Nevertheless, I'd have to give it 4 stars if I reviewed it right now. Too many powerful moments on that album and, lord save me, I love Sammy and Tex.

Definitely When The Crowds Are Gone for me.
... what's that?... not an option... how about Not What You See? This one is definitely worth checking out (outtake from Streets available as a bonus track on The Wake Of Magellan): |

Sorry, the list was nearly maxed out as it was. I just put all my favorites on there and others I'd heard ppl mention before (never actually heard the first 3 or P&M).

Hall Of The Mountain King - the whole album in fact is Savatage at their very best.
