 White Noise - An electric storm (1969) Not sure what category it fits into - but surely a piece of progressive music.
Instead of trying to describe the music I quote: (Written on the album's back cover) "MANY SOUNDS HAVE NEVER BEEN HEARD-BY HUMANS: SOME SOUND WAVES YOU DON'T HEAR-BUT THEY REACH YOU. 'STORM STEREO' TECHNIQUES COMBINE SINGERS, INSTRUMENTALISTS AND COMPLEX ELECTRONIC SOUND. THE EMOTIONAL INTENSITY IS AT MAXIMUM"
Side one is titled 'phase in' and features five short tracks. Side two is titled 'phase out' and features two long tracks 'the visitation' & 'black mass: electronic storm in hell'. They are of very different nature from the shorter 'poppier' tracks of side one - they develop into some krautish free-form nightmare. A truely unique album and one of my alltime favorites.

Delia Derbyshire <3 Employee, as was Brian Hodgson, at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
David Vorhaus made another album in the midseventies called white noise II, of which I've only heard the title track feartured on this, the best sampler ever (feat. otherwise unreleased material from hatfield and the north & steve hillage) . But it's nowhere near as impressive as an electric storm. v/a - V (virgin sampler - 1975) Look closely - what's wrong?

Huh, I thought they're already here.  An Electric Storm is an awesome album, and about 30 years ahead of its time if you ask me.

Not to go too off-topic here, but a thousand times this. There was a radio 4 documentary about her recently during which my respect and admiration for her developed into an out-and-out nerd-crush. I only know White Noise's first album, but on the strength of that one alone I agree we ought to seriously consider adding them.

It's been suggested many times in the past, and I've read that Progressive Electronic rejected it (and I can understand why they would for their category). I support this act in PA. I really think that "An Electric Storm" deserves a place here. I'd say that that album has electronic, obviously, experimental and psych qualities as well as kind of avant pop qualities.

Or Crossover for that album's art pop qualities (or avant pop as I phrased it before); however, White Noise released seven, I think, "studio" albums and I'm not really familiar with the rest of the discography (have heard some of the music). The second, Concerto for Syntheizer, I would expect to be a worthy album for PA as well -- thaat being, as the title implies, more Electronic. I've read it as being something of a cross between Zappa's instrumentals and Klaus Schulze's early albums, albeit rather cheesy. Considering many of the albums, one might have expected it to find a home in Electronic (the first I would see in an Art Rock sub -- Crossover or Eclectic). Later music I've heard, as I recall, was quite techno. I'd be fine with it in Eclectic, though I think Crossover might describe the act well. It might be argued that Prog Related (or Proto Prog for the first) would be more suitable, but I'd like to see it in an art rock sub. I can take it to Eclectic or Crossover for evaluation, but would like some more discussion first (though it's been discussed a lot in the past, and I could refer to those old threads which I haven't really read yet, but fresh discussion is more fun).

I certainly support White noise. I thought they were already in PA. Possibly Crossover or Prog Related due to the pop influences (although I'm only familiar with "Electric storm").

From an outsiders viewpoint the problem of fitting white noise to these random, arbitrary and conventionally based categories seems somewhat absurd.
If white noise only made one 'prog' album - why not include just that one and care a little less about whether it is eclectic prog, crossover prog, proto-prog, progressive electronic, avant-pop, art rock, etc. - etc. -etc.

It's because of the way the site is set up, though there has been much talk about having an album based category for acts with just one prog album. Anyway, I'd also like to see the White Noise II album in PA.

Somewhat quietly and unannounced and after an unprecedented 9 separate suggestions threads (and never evaluated as far as I can tell) White Noise hare finally here.
