The Red Masque - why does nobody seem to know them

I have never ever seen anyone mention The Red Masque (except Friede and me; we are fans). does nobody know them? or if they do, does nobody like them? very strange indeed, they are in our opinion one of the best bands that came up in the mid 90s, if not THE best band

I know Lynette has an account here. nevertheless, they by far don't get the attention they deserve at all. I can only recommend to go to there MySpace page; you can listen to some of their excellent stuff there. here a link:

they are one of the darkest bands there are. songs like "The Spider is the Web" or the epic "Passage" are as dark as dark can get

I think any lover of VdGG should love The Red Masque too. there clearly is an influence (which the band gladly acknowledge), but they have developed their own thing. influences of Magma can also be heard (the heavy bass!), and lot of other influences too. they mixed a really good cocktail from it

hmmm.. these guys r on acid. and not the acid 70's band were takin, today's acid seem much stronger by hearing this

well, I find them a lot better than celebrities like Opeth or Porcupine Tree. they are a band that manage to capture the spirit of the 70s without sounding outdated. Friede and I have been fans ever since hearing a feature on them on an internet radio show

But you have to accept the fact there are some great names in the 90's and 00's that will simply stay unknown - Big Block 454, Coma Stereo, Illachime Quartet, Rouge Ciel, and many others.

I have Feathers for Flesh and it's a highly enjoyable yet intense listen.

You asked "why".

Yeah, everyone has their own taste.  Some experimental music you can tell that the people making it or liking it probably smoke a lot of herb.  I'm not saying this band does that.  But it kind of pigeonholes certain types of music.
You begin to realize the more difficult music (say Hackett-era Genesis) is the product of very exceptional people that
probably spent a lot of time sober.  Or, stuff like John Coltrane, had an intense spiritual path.  So, you find out
a lot about different types of music, and then certain music scares people off after a while.

Some music sounds great to people who may be young and haven't really lived through a lot of life, and
seen the folly of liking some kinds of things, but will learn by experience, hopefully, the folly of certain ways.
Again, that does not refer to this band.  I'm not being sarcastic when I say that.

I played a little bit of the band and just did not feel a draw.

I don't know why I don't know them other than I know that I don't.
