and where did they come from? I thought I was fairly well versed on the higher-regarded eclectic prog bands, but there's this one hiding out in there with of 2 of 12 or so studio albums rated below a 4... Well, most of them don't have tons of ratings, and quite possibly I've run across a user or two who has shown a bit much enthusiasm in giving them five star ratings without reviews, but their latest has lots of reviews and stuff. Were they a recent addition? The pun is mildly atrocious, but their music sounds like it might be interesting...

I think that their latest albums sparked the discussions and led to their inclusion.

Motorpsycho have an international following who are more fanatical than Jesus Christ and Grateful Dead's following. They started out at the end of the 1980s as a post-punk band with leanings towards hippie and space rock. A couple of world famous albums...... in Oslo and a 50 meters radius of the rock-clubs there...... but unknown outside Oslo. But they built up a following too in Germany and Japan by touring their. They got a very fanatical following after the beginning of the 1990 with fans who follows them around the world adn even go to the band members birthplaces to pay homage to them. Some of them have even put up tents outside their homes and stayed there for days while the bemused Motorpsycho members was going to and from their work, supermarkets and dog-walking duties. Motorpsycho have always been very popular among the critics too which think they are greater than Jesus Christ. Motorpsycho is a strange cultural thing........... and sometimes a rock'n'roll band too. It is beyond me to make sense out of this. Edited by toroddfuglesteg - May 29 2010 at 12:10 |

As far as I am concerned, they have been collaborated with their fellow Norwegians, Jaga Jazzist.

Motorpsycho have been evaluated by Eclectic - they're not the most eclectic, unique or bizarre band around - they're some sort of blend between alter rock, heavy prog/hard rock and some psych. In my opinion, not bad, but nothing to die for. Frankly I was bit surprised by a feedback they're getting - it seems there's a review of their album every here and there. Good for them.

^Hopefully I can balance out the rating of Heavy Metal Fruit with my next review
![]() PS Now that Motorpsycho have been added to PA I expect Freak Kitchen to follow them shortly! ![]() Just read the first few lines of their description on Wikipedia. Besides, Mattias Eklundh has been added to Tech/Extreme Prog Metal-category a long time ago. Edited by Rune2000 - May 29 2010 at 18:26 |

Motorpsycho is without a doubt a cult-band. They started playing in Europe across the "punk-route" in Germany, but because they really weren't punk but leaning more towards classic hard-rock/prog, they were conceived as a breath of fresh air. And they continued touring A LOT in Europe, resulting in them getting pretty good followings in Germany, Netherlands and Italy (in addition to Norway, of course)
And it is their live shows which have gained them their reputation. Long ass gigs, forever-changing setlists, lotsa jamming and unpredictability in seemingly normal songs - all that seemed to bring in a bigger and bigger crowd for each tour.
Another aspect is of course their productivity. An album once a year is basically the rule, not the exception.
And they do write great songs that lie as foundation for jamming and experimenting. Because bands usually are f---ed without songs.
I guess I'm not the most objective guy on this matter

Yeah, Motorpsycho came out of nowhere to me a bit too. I considered myself very well versed in these things and all of a sudden there's this wildly acclaimed band who've been around for decades and have 12 albums and their newest looks like a frontrunner for best of 2010.
I've given Heavy Metal Fruit a listen (though I need more time with it) and while I like it, I do have to repeat the criticism I've heard from others that they're not really all that prog.

Why should you, it's gonna be the best album of 2010 ![]() It's no classic prog, but that issue is not my meaning of life. I've heard a few of their albums over the years. Our library has almost them all of them. (they probably engage a Psychonaut there!) I wasn't really thrilled about them but the new one and "Little Lucid Moments" really fired my interest. Motorphsyco collaborated with Supersilent, here's a clip this is the supersilent half of the band. Kenneth's drums blocked Hans and Bent from a worthy shooting angle.

Intriguing. Well, I'll give them a listen or two, and I'll try not to become weird as a byproduct.

Heavy Metal Fruit is a great album but the vocals are at times a bit of a turn-off for people.

@Truth, I know, that is the 1 weak point of MP, but other then that their music is fantastic, I will recomend to you Truth, the three "jazz" era albums Let them Eat Cake, Phanorythime, It's a Love Cult full of lovely mellotron and horn instruments, and more like classic prog rock in sound and aura, extremly good music to be quite honoust
