I'm pretty much tied between the two. I love them both.

Spock's Beard. The Kings are great as well, but none of their releases can match works like V, Snow or the first couple of tracks on The Light, which are memorable.

I have more albums by The Flower Kings than Spock's Beard, so I voted for them.

For me it depends if we're talking Neal Morse era or after. With Neal Morse, no doubt Spock's wins. After Neal Morse, I think FK has the edge...

Exactly. Post Morse, the Flower Kings are clearly the better band, but with Morse Spock's Beard was the better band.

I think overall I enjoy The Kings more than The Beard,  however the new SB disk "X" is surprisingly excellent. Now if Roine could only work out the issues within the Flower Kings and put out somethjing new....

Spock's Beard sounds too derivative for my taste, I can clearly spot the different influences at different times.
The Flower Kings have a more distinctly recognisable sound, to my ears anyway

Thank you for the poignant and witty commentary.  We appreciate your input and you may have actually helped change some opinions on this thread.  Personally, I was going to vote "Spock's Beard" but you bring up a great point so I'll vote for "The Flower Kings" instead.

Flower Kings ... but the only SB album I've heard so far is Day For Night, so that might change after I've heard more of their discography.

Love both... but I have a form of Neal Morse bias that nothing can overcome. Snow, V, and The Kindness of Strangers are 3 of my all-time favorite albums and I've always had a soft spot for them. I love TFK, but they just can't compete with the Beard IMO.

Unfortunately concision is underrated these days...

Neither of them because they are modern bands but don't sound modern at all. There's always a feeling of deja ecoute. But of course both are quite good in their field...

You could've said that from the beginning, rather than acting like you're too good for everyone that likes either of these bands. Wink

The Flower Kings. Neal Morse's solo albums are better than Spock's Beard
