About Moraine

Led by veteran musical adventurer and pioneer of East-West musical interchange Dennis Rea, Moraine is an omnivorous Seattle-based instrumental quintet rounded out by violinist Alicia Allen, reed/flute player Jim DeJoie, bassist Kevin Millard, and drummer Stephen Cavit. With its full complement of ace instrumentalists arrayed in striking combination, Moraine achieves a unique sound while drawing on forms ranging from art rock to Chinese folk music to unleashed, plugged-in power jazz, and more. In a typical Moraine performance, haunting melodies cohabit with crushing riffs, lush textures, propulsive swing, and explosive improvisation, creating a galvanizing listening experience. Moraine has been enthusiastically received by audiences ranging from jazz aficionados to metalheads to progressive rock enthusiasts, and the band's 2009 debut release on NYC-based MoonJune Records, manifest deNsity, has drawn glowing reviews worldwide. Moraine is thrilled to be playing NEARfest 2010, the world's most prestigious annual showcase for progressive rock in all its forms.
