I've been waiting for a supposed box set that was mentioned in the "coming soon" bit of the wayside newsletter email before buying anything by them.

And I'm pretty much in love with most things CC.

Wait a minute, I can't say anything about Cassiber, since I only got "Beauty & the Beast" and I haven't listened to it for months (but it's because I've got A LOT of other records to listen!).
But I still have the three free mp3 available on the Recommended Records internet site. A supergroup for lovers of improvised music.

Chris Cutler is an incredible drummer, and to really appreciate him you need to see him as well as hear him. Hopefully some of this video material will be in the Cassiber box set, whenever it comes out.

I thought they were at their best as the quartet that made Beauty & the Beast and Man or Monkey. The albums they made as a trio are still good, but rely a bit too heavily on sampling for my taste.

We, as a forum, need to get over The Flower Kings. I don't even like TFK, but you're not helping our "cause" by alienating people who somehow aren't drawn to mediocre avant-sax and shouting right off the bat.

Got no sound here, so I can't really comment on the videoclip.

I've never not enjoyed Cutler's playing, though. I guess I use unique too often on too many, but he really is unique.

Yeah, they were on-song with Beauty and the Beast. I'd actually contemplate the box, depending on the material, anyone know what it's going to cover?

The Dolphy comparison would be apt, methinks, he played on Otomo's Out to Lunch didn't he Tongue

I'd never put the connection together that he played with Cassiber. He's lives in Seoul now, well the last I know anyhow, was doing some interesting concerts with Choi Sun Bae, and the Relay crew through 07 - 08. Maybe not as good as through the late 80's with Peter Brötzmann & Sonny Sharrock, but interest nevertheless.

He also was a member of Duo Goebbels/Harth (who also used Dagmar Krause on some of their earlier albums), Gestalt et Jive (with Ferdinand Richard and others) and Vladimir Estragon (with FM Einheit and Phil Minton and others).

And Otomo Yoshihide sampled some of Goebbels/Harth for Ground Zero. Indeed, Ground Zero's Revolutionary Peking Opera Ver. 1.28 is a re-sampling of Peking-Oper from their album Frankfurt-Peking (and also available on the compilation Goebbels Heart).

Also worth mentioning is that Han Bennink has worked with Peter Brotzmann (who worked with Alfred Harth) and Eric Dolphy.

You got the connection in one - I didn't think anybody would pick up on it. When I heard about the ONJO version of Out To Lunch I wasn't too sure about the idea; how do you improve on what is pretty much perfect already? When I actually listened to it, though, I was mightily impressed.

As far as I'm aware Harth is still based in Seoul and is now known as Alfred 23 Harth.

According to Chris Cutler, the box set will include all the official releases, remastered; a live disc, a DVD, a big booklet and for subscribers there will be a special bonus disc. Good value for £60 I'd say.
