I dont know if there is many brazilian members here as me (so, now you dicovered why i have so bad english lol!) but id like to discuss that.

There is other bands, like Angra, Som Nosso de Cada Dia, A Barca do Sol, A Cor do Som, Hermeto Pacoal, Wagner Tiso, Egsberto Gismonti etc, but i think Mutantes is the most popular.

For those who dont know what im talking about:

A cor do som (ecletic prog):

Os Mutantes(psycadelic, space rock, prog):

Hermeto Pascoal (ecletic/fusion):

Angra(metal prog):

Som Imaginário(symphonic prog):

Sagrado Coração da Terra(symphonic prog/new age):

A barca do sol(folk prog):

O Terço (kind of neo-prog):

I prefer the sunny and freaky psych of early Mutantes over their 70s prog efforts. Don't get me wrong, they do know how to work in the prog idiom, but its not nearly as adventurous as their early work.

Seja bem vindo! We have a few Brazilians here and there, by the way.

Thank you, Walter. I agree with you, i do prefer their early works, but I just hate Rita Lee vocals...

Have you heard Marcus Viana and Sagrado Coraçao da Terra ?

Also, Som Imaginario are quite good.

Bacamarte, Módulo 1000 and Ronnie Von's early psychedelia do it for me.

For this website in particular the best and most popular brazilian band is with no doubt Bacamarte. It is the only brazilian band whose album is among the 50 (right now 20) top prog albums on the front page.

But I'd add to Bacamarte, bands like Quaterna Requiem, Tempus Fugit and Blezqi Zatzas. They fit to my taste. Also all of them sound genuinely more like prog bands. 70s brazilian band that were quoted here are nice, but they allowed themselves to be influenced by a lot of other bands not quite progressive.

From the 70s, did anyone remember to mention "Terreno Baldio"? A nice Gentle Giant-like band.

My favorite one is Som Imaginário, but Bacamarte really good.
Hermeto Pascoal and Egberto Gismonti are more Jazz than prog rock, but they are incredible.
And we have Arrigo Barnabé too.
