Al Di Meola is a more accomplished composer and a true jazz guitarist. Santana doesn't compare to what Al in terms of virtuosity. He's more a blues man with a touch of latin flavour. Check out the grande passion by al di. simply breathtaking.

Carlos Santana!I know that he has written mainstream songs.I was ready to vote Al di meola. But this damn virtuosic playing doesn't let me to vote him. So,the passionate latin guitar playing wins.

I wouldn't mind seeing the two team up.  Carlos is long overdue to put out another prog album.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Mighty Carlos. His early albums are classical and truly iconic works. On the other hand, Al Di Meola never catched me. He seems to be like an artist for a couple of jazzy insiders.

With painful honesty, i must say i have never liked the music of Santana
I am just a recent folower of Di Meola, but am taking to his music quite a bit, after buying some dvds with him (Right of Strings, Return To Forever)

This is very difficult. Both Abraxas and "Elegant Gypsy" are two of my favourite albums.
I think that there are more weak records in Santana's discography than in Al di Meola.
And as I have seen Meola live two years ago, and I remeber that night as one of the best music nights I've ever seen in my life, I go for Al di Meola.

They are very different indeed but I much prefer Carlos. His guitar playing is just beautiful!

There's a reasons Supernatural went 15x platinum in the US alone. It's damn good.

An easy one for me, Al DiMeola. Sorry I can't stick Santana.

Al Di Meola without doubt!

Though Santana isn't bad.
Pretty much night and day styles...
