ESOTERIC RECORDINGS, part of Cherry Red Records are pleased to announce the first ever UK CD releases of the albums “END OF THE WORLD” and “IT’S FIVE O CLOCK” by Greek Psych / Prog legends APHRODITE’s CHILD. Formed in 1967 by keyboard player VANGELIS, the band also featured DEMIS ROUSSOS on bass and vocals and LUCAS SIDERAS on Drums. Their classic debut album was released in 1968 and featured the international hit “Rain and Tears”, partially inspired by PROCOL HARUM’s “A Whiter Shade of Pale”. However, the album revealed a more experimental side to the band’s nature with such Psychedelic gems as “The Grass is No Green”, “You Always Stand in My Way” and “Day of the Fool”. Their classic second album was released in 1969 and featured the international hit from which the album took its name. The LP revealed a more experimental side to the band’s nature with such Psychedelic gems as “Funky Mary” and “Let Me Love, Let Me Live”. Lovingly packaged, these Esoteric Recordings reissues have been officially licensed from Universal Music and are remastered from the original tapes.

As a Vangelis fan I might get them although what I really want is a super duper no holds barred deluxe remaster of 666. Edited by richardh - June 18 2010 at 12:37 |

always loved the unique combination of vangelis and mr.rousoss.
does anyone know if they toured the 666" album? cos if they did i"d kill for some live recordings. there is 2 or 3 early tracks on youtube (live) if anyone is interested? good quality, and with videos,in the late 60"s! .i just wish they"d of continued after the 666 album although "earth"-the 1973 album by vangelis, had that aphrodites child feel to it,but demis roussoss was so unique wasn"t he....come on! come on! come on come on come on come on come on! |

I believe the band broke up by the time 666 was released, which is really a shame because that album could have sounded so powerful live. I really do think that band had so much more potential. Sad they broke up when they did |

I am very pleased to hear this news. I remember when "666" was released but it was hard to get on vinyl in NZ. Fortunately, I was able to buy a copy, which I highly treasure. I don't have a turn-table so being able to buy it now on CD, will once more make it accessible - to everyone interested in AC's music.

the band never performed 666 on stage because VANGELIS ended the album alone,he wanted to spend more time in the studio and LUCAS and DEMIS wanted to tour because , VANGELIS being the only composer , it was the only way for them to get money . They toured with another keyboard player but it was'nt good ,and they played only the more pop stuff .A happening was planned with VANGELIS' friend , SALVATOR DALI but it never happened
